Yes, I noticed you never change it ;)

Ha! Well, I'd be happy if you'd keep quiet about some of the magazine subscriptions direct-debits if you please.....

Seriously though, if my bank doesn't make me change my password in 15 years, doesn't that suggest that a similar position should be able to be taken by a public bulletin-board?

Cheers,

There's evidence to suggest that mandating regular password changes actually makes systems less secure. e.g. https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/blogs/techftc/2016/03/time-rethink-mandatory-password-changes

Having just gone to change my password, I have also found that I have forgotten the current one

Now what do I do?

Log out then follow the instructions here:

faq.php#f0r6

Which involves contacting "a board administrator", which is what stooz was hoping to avoid, which you could do by using the "contact us" facility at the foot of all (I think) pages.

Click on the small arrow beside your username at the top of the page (not sure if its there on every page, but it's certainly on some...)

Then go to profile, edit account settings.

Thanks! I'm not sure that I'd have found it, otherwise.

Hah! Following a DAK about getting a reset under "normal circumstances", it looks like I am on a deadline before I get locked out entirely!

Co-incidentally I PMd Stooz just this morning about it, before I saw this!

Presumably your computer automatically logs you in so that means the password and user name is stored.
In Firefox:
Click on the icon top left (3 horizontal bars) to open the menu.
Click on 'Options' (cog wheel icon)
Click on 'Security' in the list in the left
Click on 'Saved Logins...'
Click 'Show Passwords' then 'Yes'
All your saved passwords are shown. Filter using the search box - try typing 'lemon'.

The process is similar in other browsers.

Sorry, but that 'presumably' is wrong. I don't store any passwords in my browsers, for obvious reasons.

I stay logged in because TLF allow me to tick the 'Remember Me' box when I logged in. Only it's so long ago now I've forgotten the password I used.

Perhaps if the login page was made https instead of unsecured as it is now then regular password changes wouldn't be necessary.
