Football,Football,Football
I wanted to watch the news on TV this morning but apparently the only thing happening in the world today is a game of football

How is it 57 years btw?
It's a completely different tournament. If they think an England win will erase the 'hurt'...well it won't.

2023-1966=57 years between football world cups.
Hope that helps.

But if you're not going to count like-for-like, then it's 6 years since England won any football World Cup - two in fact, the U-17 (with Phil Foden etc) and U-20 (with Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring the winner in the final) in 2017.
The U-17 final saw England beat Spain 5-2 after being a goal down at half-time...

Imagine what would be like had we won!!!
Who is that ghastly commentator constantly being played on the BBC R4 the last few days, with the grating screaming shouting voice about to burst with histrionics? I can't even decide which gender they are.

Re: Football,Football,Football
Anyway I watched the second half and I did not find it in the least entertaining not just because England lost but I thought the game deteriorated rapidly into a very scrappy game and neither team came out of it very well.

Let's be honest here....the football was pish .
By way of comparison, I was hopping between the ladies and the Norwich v Millwall game on Sky & the difference in quality was startling. I mean, theyre not even on the same planet.

I guess that was so but it did not to me make for a game that was worth all the fuss.

welcome to sport. Its the dichotomy between a thing that is also seen as entertainment. The problem being of course the primary focus (mostly) of sports people is to win, not entertain. (basic caveats over development stages, and even that leaves entertainment a second criteria at best)
One cannot watch sport as an "entertainment" - it doesnt work that way. If you bwant entertainment, watch a play, musical, film, TV program etc ...

Re: Football,Football,Football
I just read an annoying piece about the lack of diversity in the team:
https://uk.news.yahoo.com/england-lione ... 31985.html
But look at the first photo in the article. The woman squatting in the middle. Is she blond and blue-eyed?
Then:
Yeah, so let's bring class into it as well!
What the hell is going on in the UK?
Steve

"It really sticks out at you. They look blonde, blue-eyed. If it was the men's World Cup it would be very representative of the Britain that we're in and very, very diverse."
.....with broadcaster Eilidh Barbour saying that England’s all-white Lionesses highlighted a lack of diversity in the sport.
She commented that all starting 11 players and five substitutes who came on to the pitch were white, saying: "that does point towards a lack of diversity in the women’s game in England".
But look at the first photo in the article. The woman squatting in the middle. Is she blond and blue-eyed?
Then:
Commenting on suggestions that professional women’s football in England remains a middle-class sport in February this year, England manager Sarina Wiegman said: "You’re not going to change things overnight.
Yeah, so let's bring class into it as well!
What the hell is going on in the UK?

To be fair, it's not a very diverse team and the men's team is more diverse, but its not 100% white, even I can see that! And no, they are not all blonde (not looked closely at their eyes).
What I do find odd is the lack of variety in their hair styles, nearly all just long straight hair.
But, anyway, as we know, women were banned from playing football at any club level (I wonder how many women were on the FA Board when this happened?) until the early 70's so let's just marvel in the fact it's got this far so quickly. And allow women to play their game without men interfering.

Totally agree!
Hope the tabloids can keep Race and Class out of it and, as you say, allow those amazing women to play their game

that might (?) simply be because its easy to keep out the way and deal with after getting sweaty several times a week (training, playing etc). ??
Here's the/some of the England women's rugby tream... pretty similar hair styles for probably much the same reason.

Meanwhile, while a bloke , 30+ years of playing front row saw my hair pretty short constantly, for similarly pragmatic reasons (and to stop the oppo from pulling it!)

So, women could have short hair, no? Or medium length hair held back with a band, like Jack Grealish? That's what I do with mine when I play badminton.
I mean, I'm not sure why you think I hadn't considered how much easier long hair must be, being as I'm a woman. If it was SO much easier, you'd think men would do it too.....
