I live in a house and have up to 3 lodgers with me.
I'm now finding problems where insurers will cover me for 3 lodgers, but require me to inform them if that number changes.
Since I rent mainly to MSc students, that number often goes down to zero during the year, but never exceeds 3.
Having to phone the insurer is inconvenient and potentially expensive.
I would far rather have a policy that covers me for the worst case scenario, e.g. "UP TO 3 LODGERS". Then there would be no need to phone them.
1 Does anyone else have the same problem ?
2 Take care to ensure your insurance is not invalidated due to non-material error in the description.

I'm not in this position, but i sympathise entirely. it really smacks of a "computer says no" mentality.
I suppose there is the inevitable "administration" charge every time that numbers changes too
