Had a disembodied beep as I was preparing my baguette for lunch today.
The great difficulty with a pure-tone electronic beep is, it's extremely hard to place where it's coming from. Is it something in this room - there are lots of electricals in the kitchen? Could it be something in the dining room complaining that it's been left off the charger, or something? Is the fire alarm complaining about its battery?
It's bad enough when a 'phone rings and it's unclear if it's mine, but at least you know it's a phone, and you get some time to hunt it down. A half-second beep, by contrast, gives no clue either to identity or direction.
And to cap it all, a repeat interval that's too long to be helpful tracking it down. All the annoyance, none of the utility. Grrr ...
(today's was the dishwasher. I had opened it after running it in the wee hours, but failed to toggle the power button).
