looking to invest in a new pair of bib shorts.
at the moment I have dub and endure.
although the assos are really expensive are they worth it.
if they are far superior, then to me they would be.
any recommendations ?

I've got 3 pairs

One from Aldi - pair of last choice. But they were under £20
Scott - pretty good for a sub 2 hour ride - cost about £65
Pearl Izumi - Short of choice for me, can and have worn them for 12 hours plus. Also cost about £65

The pearls just are more comfortable - now, I don't know if that means they are better fitting for me, or better padding all round, but they work better for me.

A few years ago (and actually, it wasn't that long ago), bib shorts were universally crap. Assos were head and shoulders above the competition and they rightly justified their price tag. Brilliant bits of kit.

These days, the gap has narrowed and there are lots of very good shorts around (eg, Castelli, Morvelo). You still have to spend a fair bit to get quality shorts, but maybe not Assos prices. Having said that, if you spend a decent amount of time in the saddle then you can't go wrong with Assos.

My favourites are some nice Madison ones (they have sort of mesh panels in key places like backs of knees which are nice and cooling). I paid below RRP on ebay for them - probably end of line or last season.

Dhb seem to get great ratings in general.

If you are into very long rides, I can ask my OH if he has any recommendations?

yes, I think you can get away with most half decent shorts up to a couple of hours, but my aim is
to get some "best" shorts for those longer days out.......say 4 hours plus.
I may go the whole hog and see if assos are worth all the hype.
But, I do like the look and feel of some castelli ones. decisions, decisions.
