Re: Centrica 13%

Several of "The Wise" I read (one source below) are touting a dividend of 8p (-33%) next year, which offers the brave buyer a "rebased" or "forecast" (take your pick) yield of 8.6%. Going further, a hypothetical cut to 4.2p (-65%) offers 4.5%, coincidentally the same a...

That worked fine for me - and I've just tried it again to double-check that I hadn't inadvertently done something odd, and it still works... There is the minor difference that ctrl-F brings up Acrobat Reader's find facility rather than my browser's, so that the input area for "dividend" i...

Re: How safe are investment platforms?

I hold ISA's with two providers and one of those also has my trading account, but that is a CREST sponsored account, so those shares are theoretically safe even if the broker goes broke - unless there was fraud aswell as I'm on the share register. I might look to a third ISA broker if my holdings do...

Re: What next for prefs ?

Yes, the LLPG were always callable on the 17th June 2019 whereas Lloyds have no power to redeem LLPC or LLPD. The other type of Lloyds preference share which a number of people here may hold which are also redeemable are LLPE which will be callable on the 15th March 2024. Interesting price differen...

As posted elsewhere they are not iredeemable, the prospectus says they have the right to redeem at par on 17th June 2019 or subsequently on pay dates.

I've now been and looked at the prospectus: Lloyds TSB 9.25% Preference Shares The provisions of the Lloyds TSB 9.25% Preference Shares will provide, among other things: (i) that dividends will accrue at 9.25 per cent. per annum, and will be payable in arrear on 31 May and 30 November in each year, ...

Re: What next for prefs ?

They were trading at 98/103 when I looked and I assume par is 100 and they seem to have be trading around 100 (between 94 and 110) for the last 3 years. The announcement refers to a "contractual right". One assumes then, this was priced in and that's why the price has been around 100. I'd...

Timing of your trades makes a big difference: PFC has been a share I have traded in and out of quite profitably on a couple of occasions, buying near £4 and selling out as the price rose towards 550p. Re: High yield vs other investing strategies

I would suggest that this Board have unconscious bias on this matter, because the people who blew up their pot due to a large market correction aren't posting on here sharing their situation. They are still in employment regretting the day they ran too much risk (either knowingly or unknowingly) I'...

I've already bought a new holding this month (Smith, D S) but this leavess cash in the same account for a couple of topups. The winners were VOD (up to median weight) and SLA (just under median weight) - with deference to Dod, who would certainly not approve 8-) Arb. As Humphrey might say "a b...
