Re: How do I know if my work DC pension is on track?

I use a several pronged approach. On the one hand I assume a 3%-4% return on investments - I don't need a spreadsheet for that, I can do 4% in my head. (I do have a spreadsheet though :D ) So, assume an income of up c£6,500pa. Can you live on that? Probably not. You seem to be adding £10k pa - so ov...

Re: Thoroughly depressing

It does come across as if sometimes people need to check their privilege before they tell everyone how being privileged is so much more green

Re: Nationality question

I was horrified to find out recently that my great grandfather was from Yorkshire. Despite that, I won't be putting Yorkshire!

Re: Thoroughly depressing

If a first class seat on a plane takes the same space as 6 economy seats, then the first class passenger is consuming at least 6 times the resources to get from A to B that each individual economy passenger uses. (Actually it's even more because first class passengers also have extra cabin crew to ...

Re: Nationality question

Well, I don't think the UK is a country so my country of residence is England.

Nationality is British.

For NI, I'd say it was "Northern Ireland" and "British".

Re: Thoroughly depressing

I would prefer that schools and their pupils be encouraged to make regular measurements of their local weather and carry out their own research into the way in which our weather and climate varies. There are too many misleading reports, like those claiming that last year was the hottest on record, ...

Re: Question

I could do that too when I was single. Things are are much easier when you're single. However, when you double the above when you're in a relationship it's impossible to remember everything. If you say you can remember everything without ever putting pen to paper, you're either a liar or one of tho...

Re: Question

Fools socials don't end to be Saturdays/Sundays though? That restaurant looks nice - if you like German food. Which I don't, much. It's OK if you're in Germany where you don't have much choice, but not sure I'd choose a German restaurant when I have plenty of other to choose from where they sell tho...

Re: Question

I don't have lists, nor a diary. I can remember what needs doing, like Simsqu, I do stuff when it needs doing (today I loaded and started the d/w, I probably won't unload it, the cleaner can do that Monday) or it's a routine (e.g laundry happens towards the end of a week, I've done some today as I w...

Re: Question

It would never cross my mind to leave someone a list. Just wait until your partner is 75, and they will be pleased to see a written list, rather than having to wrack their brains trying to remember what reasonable tasks you had requested them to carry out :) In case you missed my point - it is not ...

Re: Question

It would never cross my mind to leave someone a list. I tend to assume adults are capable of managing their own lives in the way they wish. I suppose I might leave a "don't forget the plumber is coming at three" or something as, for whatever reason, no male I have ever lived with has been ...

Re: Making tax digital - VAT etc

Luckily, I don't do any of that.

I am flat rate VAT and don't have purchase invoices. I run cash accounting and just keep a very basic sheet showing incomings, outgoings, invoices, VAT due, bank account summary.

Accountant does the rest at the end of the year.

I think the sash says someting 'girl'. It's too lame dress-wise to be hens, they'd all be wearing deely boppers and the hen would have a sash, veil, L plate etc. Possibly birthday girl?

Re: I can't get into work

My colleague, who from Monday just gone now reports to me, but she didn't know this, had to go home because her cat was ill, then took two days off. One she 'booked' as working from home and told my boss she was "just going to dial in to a couple of calls" (er, no, if you're working, you'r...
