Re: 2008 again?

I too am getting a distinctly unpleasant feeling that something bad is around the corner. My suspicion is it's all related to debt. Or more the fact that sufficient debt has not been cleared while interest rates were low. The smart people and companies were shovelling the extra cash* into clearing a...

Re: What is tinkering if not trading in a HYP?

Motive is irrelevant. If you are a genuine HYPer then you NEVER sell unless the market does it for you. I'm not disagreeing with you but I wonder how many of those who post on the HYP Practical board are 'genuine HYPers' in that respect, when I asked a similar question a little while ago, I think o...

Re: Labels. The potential for creating disagreement

Whilst I'm not a moderator on the HYP Practical board, it really does frustrate me to continually see streams of posts demanding changes in the moderation process, when all the moderators are trying to do is to keep the HYP Practical board discussions within the boundaries set out within the board ...

Re: What is tinkering if not trading in a HYP?

Well in my humble opinion it is not because of what was written, but who wrote it. Yup. I recognise that mods are human the same as the rest of us, so they have posters they like and posters they don't. If you are a favoured poster you and your posts will be treated one way, if you are disliked the...

Re: What is tinkering if not trading in a HYP?

calling out those HYPers who don't allow themselves to sell, as being the problem. There is a huge difference between 'not allowing' your self to sell and shutting down discussion of those who do 'allow' themselves. . Maybe I inadvertently put my finger on a major difference between "tinkering...

Re: Swapping Sage for......?

A few weeks later: I have still not sold.
The addition of an extra 1.6% of my dividend income, while nice, isn't exactly going to lead to early retirement or shopping at Waitrose.
I may change my mind at some later date though.

Re: HYP Purity (or, when does an HYP become not an HYP?)

No-one cares. Except the **** HYPers. The use of a clinically recognised mental health condition as a pejorative term is not acceptable. You have used this multiple times on various threads and we have erred on the side of charity in not pulling you up earlier. Do not repeat this or similar...

Re: What is tinkering if not trading in a HYP?

The problem comes with the **** types who don't allow any selling whatsoever and the fact the extremely tight rules on HYP posting here aren't tight at all and allow for 'maintenance'. Consider this: A share's yield falls to, say, 2% because it's share price has tripled. The investor decides to sell...

Re: HYP Purity (or, when does an HYP become not an HYP?)

I don't think it's a clear cut case of mod bashing, as you seem to think. In fact, quash that one right away, I will put my money where my mouth is: I'm very happy to become a volunteer mod for a couple of weeks. Want to take me up on my offer? It's not my call but happy to forward your offer to st...

Re: HYP Purity (or, when does an HYP become not an HYP?)

That brings us to tinkering or trading. Adjustments to the portfolio to keep it within the owner's choice of parameters, or to reinvest cash arising, are not trading as conventionally understood. Buying shares to get capital gain and selling when the target has been reached, is definitely trading. ...

Re: Moderator Free February on HYP Practical?

If we were all to stick strictly to the guidance in HYP Practical there would be very little posted there. Maybe the odd corporate action discussion and whether to add a particular share. What gets me is the quite unnecessary intervention by one or two mods (and I do not include dspp in this) who a...

Re: Moderator Free February on HYP Practical?

Well yeah but then all the arguments about what is “HYP” and what is not “HYP” would rage and dominate that board and we’d be back where we started. You’d just be swapping one massive headache for another, Not if it was called 'Dividend Investing' and something similar with the broad terms of refer...

Re: Moderator Free February on HYP Practical?

Selling a holding completely because its yield has fallen below your own acceptable limit is a legitimate HYP management move. I set mine at half the market yield or about 2%. Someone else might set their own limit at 3%. TJH And an OCD purist sticks to the 'never sell' doctrine even up until the s...

Re: Moderator Free February on HYP Practical?

The daft thing is I'm not even one of those who gets modded on the HYP board because I post there so infrequently now. I'm just fed up of the draconian approach to shutting down discussion. Re: Moderator Free February on HYP Practical?

Surely it's better to have a forum about practical High Yield Portfolios and if you decide as a responsible adult that you want to sell your entire holding in, say, Compass and buy something with a higher yield then that is [b] still [/b ]a HYP. Indeed it is more of a HYP because it has a higher yi...

Re: Moderator Free February on HYP Practical?

I think this is the heart of the problem. The HYP Practical board was conceived for practical matters concerning the HYP strategy, which many of us have adopted. The problem comes with the over OCD version of this which is clung onto by a small number of HYP extremists. As someone else has said. 'T...
