my smartfone is on a PAYG sim, no bundles for me . i would expect many topups will be needed on a long trip. i do many trips all over the uk towing our caravan , the satnav is VITAL for me. agreed on the recalculate facility , also re-routing for accidents etc . i find it easier to follow the satna...

i wonder how many big gas turbine engines ( say about airbus a320 size ) would be needed to produce the megawatts of an average coal/gas power station.

presumably these can be up and running pretty quickly .

I try to review my route before starting off to be sure its ok. you can do that with a paper map of course, but then you have to rememberit all - and there is a serious issue observing direction signs now that councils are not clearing obstructive vegetation. my garmin 2797 battery is not too good , keeps saying its low . but most of the time its plugged into the car cigar lighter , so its not a big problem . these satnavs do not seem to have the option of avoiding MINOR roads . i try to review my route before starting off to be sure its ok. you CAN do t...

side note on batteries.

i was fascinated to learn that the seaton tramway in devon is powered by clusters of trackside batteries .

120 volts i think .

perhaps could be done on a larger scale.
