Re: Alliance Trust Savings taken over by Interactive Investor

That is an interesting but clunky system on the separate thread. I think like most, I have a problem in that income from dividends fluctuates wildly from one month to the next and so I do not/am not able to set up one fixed amount. I will simply operate the transfer myself but you would think that ...

Re: Alliance Trust Savings taken over by Interactive Investor

Anyway, basically your understanding is what I was intending to say. Dividends accumulate as cash in your account unless to take action to withdraw them either as a one off transfer out or by regular scheduled payments out of the account (essentially a standing order paid to your nominated external...

Re: Sophos (SOPH)

Not a holder (one I annoyingly failed to snap up despite thinking it looked a good bet!), but a commentator in the Times (read via Moneyweek) says shareholders should be wary of hanging on "in the hope of a counterbid". The rationale for this is that the deal is backed by Sophos's founders...

Re: EPA, LPA query

I would be wary of following advice based on one person's experience (which happens to differ from mine and, I know, many others). I'd suggest contacting the Office of the Public Guardian directly to find out what course of action is in your mother's best interests: email: customerservice@publicguar...

Re: No-look November 2019

November starts after 31 October. Something I can't quite put my finger on about that date. Nope, my eyes will be wide open .... Yes! If we do in fact Brexit on that day, I defy anyone to go through the next month not checking their portfolio...... Well, nobody said it was going to be easy ....:O )...

Re: rowan berries and birds

Personally, I get more from watching them enjoy what is obviously a special treat (clearly more so than even your best offerings!) than I would from simply looking at ripe berries. I do have an ulterior motive, however. Before the older of our two rowans died, the birds (almost exclusively blackbird...

GM plankton: that'll sort out the ocean's plastic problem. What could possibly go wrong? Who needs GM? There is currently a vacant ecological niche... That's right, pick on the bottom of the food chain as usual. Well, don't look at me. I've already seen friends with terrible indigestion after havin...

Re: Transfer of property rights on next sale

Many thanks, CK. Armed with the knowledge that the reserved rights should have been binding, it has been established through a (long!) telephone conversation with LR that they did indeed fail to note this on the new title register. They have referred the case to a different department within LR who,...

Transfer of property rights on next sale

This issue has only come to light more than ten years after the two property transactions in question: Firstly, a parcel of land to the rear of a property was sold to a developer, together with a strip to the side to provide driveway access to the two proposed properties and a new garage to the rear...

Re: Whether HYP (as defined in the guidelines) works

It amazes me how this whole argument keeps staggering on round and round in circles. If, as is clearly the case, there are people who are content with their use of the HYP strategy then of course it works. Is it the very best long-term total return investment strategy? Almost certainly not - it isn...

Re: Big Week for Vod

In the case of BT.A the board have announced that they intend to maintain the dividend at the current level for next year. In the case of IMB they have stated their intention to increase the dividend by 10% again next year. These are facts, not speculation. Journalists are always commenting on what...

Re: Big Week for Vod

Note, I am not saying that any dividend cut won't happen. I am simply saying that idle speculation is not what this board should be about. If it does happen, then fair game: let's talk about what to do. But wasting time on it beforehand seems pointless. Although, for those who do want to speculate ...
