Re: South Africa

Hi,

Thanks for all your replies. We are still mulling it all over but I hope I can come back with more questions if that is ok.

Cheers!

Re: South Africa

Hi Taurus, Thanks for replying, and for the suggestions. We know absolutely nothing about South Africa, in terms of visiting there, so your comments were very helpful. We were wondering whether we should use a local travel company to organise trips in country, or is this something we could do as ind...

Re: South Africa

Hi Clariman, Did you get to South Africa in the end? Mrs B and I are thinking of a trip to SA towards the end of next Jan so this thread has been really helpful. We'll be travelling from Bulgaria so will probably fly KLM. Given the tips that people have given in the posts below, what would be your a...

NI Voluntary Class 2 contributions

Hi all, I contacted HMRC today to find out what the Class 2 NI rates were for 2016/17 and 2017/18 as I wanted to make sure my contributions were up to date. I should add that I've been living and working overseas for the last 20 years and although I had paid enough contributions to qualify for a ful...

Sightseeing in Algier!

It looks as if I'll be in Algier in the 2nd week of September running a workshop. My wife is interested in accompanying me, as a tourist, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience of being in Algier, as a tourist. She would on her own during the day and we're obviously interested in issues su...

Re: Car Hire in Ireland

Hi All, I thought I would let you know what happened regarding my car hire in Ireland. First of all I should say that my paper passport has my last UK address on it dating back over 20 years ago, even though I have been living abroad since 1997. It could be that I'm not even legally entitled to stil...

Re: Car Hire in Ireland

Hi again, Thanks for all your replies. According to the Carhire.ie website, I need my driving licence of course, a bank statement, copy of utility payment, confirming address and a printout from the DLVA confirming any points deduction, as I have a paper version of the license. Apart from my driving...

Re: Car Hire in Ireland

Hi All,
When picking up a hire car, have you ever been asked for any documentation other than your driving licence? Would be interested to know.

ISAs for children living overseas

Hi All, A colleague of mine, we are both working overseas and regarded as non-resident for tax purposes, has started to think about saving for his children's future, i.e. Uni fees etc. and wanted to know good ways to do this. I suggested that their Grandparents, both UK residents could possibly set ...

Re: Airbnb requesting photo identification

Yes, it is obvious that hotels would want to check IDs, either as a result of the law of the country but also wanting details of a guest should they do a runner or something like that. We booked an apartment in Portugal last year for 10 days without any such requirement from the owner, but if you've...

Re: Airbnb requesting photo identification

Hi all, Thank you for all your replies. We've established that it is airbnb that is asking for this and not the host. The decision about whether a person is asked to provide this can be as a result of the country you are coming from, in our case Bulgaria, according to airbnb's info on this, so it do...

Airbnb requesting photo identification

Hi all, We've used Airbnb a number of times and have been very pleased with them. We're in the process of booking places in Ireland for a trip next month and my wife was asked, by airbnb, to authenticate her identification by providing a a photo copy of her ID. Has anybody here had a similar experie...

Car Hire in Ireland

Hi All, We're off to Ireland in early July for a 9 day visit. We'll have 3 days in Dublin at the beginning and then drive around the South West for 5 or 6 days days, for which we'll hire a car. For the last 3 years we've used Europcar for trips to Sardinia, Spain and Portugal and have been generally...

Re: Nick Train considering top-ups

Hi YeeWo,

I see that BATS is down to £40.00 at the moment, thus offering a 4.90% yield. I'm sorely tempted as I've got sufficient funds for another share for my HYP. Are you still considering them?

Re: Greene King RNS

Hi All, Well, I sold my holdings in Greene King on the 27th March (see my post on this thread) after stating that I'd lost faith in the management and predicting further falls in like-for-like sales and a possible cut in the dividend, despite more knowledgeable posters here suggesting that I was bei...

Hi Dod, I didn't take you to be trying to be either critical or clever, I appreciate you taking the time to give your well judged views. Thanks for the nudge in the direction of Chesnara. I know you're a fan from previous posts, along with the likes of Admiral and Phoenix if I remember correctly. I ...

Re: Greene King RNS

Hi Dod, Thank you for your post and I of course agree with your words, it wasn't a decision that I took likely. I am sure most, if not all Hypers, have learnt expensive lessons along the way in in their investing experience. At the moment I don't regret taking the action that I did, but of course I'...

Re: Greene King RNS

Hi TJH, Many thanks for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it. I should say that, in general, I agree with everything that you have written. I did not take the decision lightly and I have other shares that are showing more of a paper loss than Green Greene, such as Imperial, but I haven't though...

Re: Greene King RNS

Hi OLTB,

Thanks for your reply and good wishes.

I'm a relatively new Hyper, as your are, as far as I understand, and I guess I'm still finding out if HYP is actually for me. We'll know better by the time the final year figures comes around I guess.

Cheers!

Re: Greene King RNS

Hi All, After much thought I decided to sell my holding yesterday. I first bought Greene King last May for 7.40 as part of my new 15 share HYP and the share price has been in a downward trend ever since. Trading statements have been uninspiring to say the least and I finally came to the conclusion t...
