Re: To Garage or Not To Garage?

The orientation of the available parking could be a factor. Does the off-street and on-street parking get morning sun? Frost on windscreen + condensation is a pain if the car is required in the morning. Is there an option of a car porch or lean-to if the garage is converted to a utility room? Just h...

Rain dripping down chimney

I have a chimney leaking into a fireplace. Well the drip is audible, not so far visible. The drip sounds like it's hitting the board which blocks the chimney above the fireplace - which is still accessible. Small bedroom fireplace; Victorian house. Roofers are booked to come and re-flaunch the stack...

They have four accounts not exactly the same but comparable.

Fed Up with Nationwide

It is a major hassle to switch, but I am finding Nationwide very unhelpful. The unresponsiveness makes me wonder if they are preparing for de-mutualising, in which it would be a bad time to switch ... maybe. I live in a town (well a London 'village' in zone 3) which has a very busy station with a cl...

Re: Nationwide axing 3% interest on Flexplus Accounts

RBS looks like a similar offer to Nationwide, and they are offering £150 to switch. RBS also offer withdrawals and deposits at Post Office counters, whereas NWBS only offer withdrawals.

Re: Problems trading SKIP

Am I wrong to think that Skipton should be sorting this out so that SKIP is tradeable in Crest? I am sceptical that there is an insurmountable technical/logistical problem.

Re: Using Firestick to watch BBC iPlayer and YouTube

You should be able to just press the main Select button (the one in the middle of the circle) on the remote to skip? That seems to work on YouTube, but not BBC iPlayer. I'm not sure which model/edition of Firestick we have. We have a firestick bought in June, and there is a 'skip' button in the bot...

Pavement Parking

There has been a discussion in a local forum in my area about pavement parking. Someone has reported that: "According to our local Highways Department car owners can park on their own curtilage, but aren’t allowed to drive over the pavement to get there (even though there is no other way). High...

Re: Problems trading SKIP

I asked Skipton if they could elaborate on the problem, here is the response: The PIBS were unable to be electronically matched in CREST due to the market-makers trading these securities at face amount (i.e. one PIB has a notional amount of £1) which differs from what the registrar are able to corre...

Re: Problems trading SKIP

the brokers / market makers for this security were unable to settle the trades.

Please can someone explain what the reasons for this might be, and why Skipton would not be able/willing to solve the issue?

I got the same email: "Dear Investor Thank you for your interest in the Skipton Building Society 12.875% PIBS. Following the admittance of the Skipton 12.875% PIBS to trade in CREST in July this year, we have unfortunately had to take the decision to withdraw them from the CREST system from 11 ...

I'm not making a general complaint about Farrow & Ball or water-based paints. Actually I think F & B have created some fab colours, and I don't like gloss / white spirit etc.

Re: Eggshell Finish

We had shelving put in, and painted with an eggshell finish. After four days the paint still seems soft and I am trying to understand why. If the decorator did not allow sufficient drying time between coats, would that account for it? Is it water based? That can take a long time to harden up in my ...

Using Firestick to watch BBC iPlayer and YouTube

I am able to skip trailers and ads when watching YouTube and iPlayer on my computer. But using Amazon Firestick with my TV there seems to be no way to avoid sitting through endless BBC trailers and YouTube ads. Is there a way that I have missed?
