Re: Telephone Cold calling

I believe BT Call Protect offers a similar service free of charge I've lost count of the number of times I've tried dialling back "Microsoft Windows technical department"... Just curious - why would you even bother to call back an unknown number ? Occasionally they are premium rate number...

Re: Telephone Cold calling

Assuming these are calls to your landline, get a call blocker. These whitelist known, trusted numbers, force unknown numbers to identify themselves and can completely block known spammers. As I work from home, I use a trueCall unit and have done for a few years - best £100 I ever spent. You simply w...

LLPC isn't covered by Google Finance. Not sure what you can do apart from ask them to add it (long shot) or find another data source.

I would normally let such things pass but I agree 100% with itsallaguess.

I never interpreted his words any anything else as what he (obviously) intended.

Re: Proportion of portfolio in Investment Trusts

Timely question. I have just invested in 4 Investment Trusts with the proceeds from selling Greene King (after the recent increase). However as I have a 15 years old HYP invested in single shares, this represents just 4% of my total savings. I am looking to gradually increase the IT allocation by di...

Re: dipping my toe in the water

Some very different beasts in your choice of ITs, and as a set Vs VHYL. At a guess the ITs comprise 300 holdings max Vs 1500 for VHYL so much more concentrated. Hi Juan Your point about the number of respective holdings interested me and you were pretty close with your estimates. SMT- 85 holdings H...

dipping my toe in the water

56 years old. Still working full-time. Looking to retire c. 60. Mortgage paid off. Debt free. ISA comprising 5 Vanguard ETF's (VUSA, VJPN, VFEM, VERX, VAPX) HYP SIPP in build phase since 2003. Happy with the capital and income but becoming slightly unwieldy (39 shares). Like others on LMF, the recen...

Re: Is it game over for remainers?

I would think it was that slimy Reece Mogg character - his hobby is studying the parliamentary rulebook and looking for gaps he can exploit in procedure

Indeed. JRM was on all available BBC channels this morning citing parliamentary precedents from 1647 :-)

Re: Is it game over for remainers?

Say what you like about Boris' strategy but the Remainers are now going to pull together and actually do something. Which, I suspect, will beyond them as they tend to favour sitting on their thumbs claiming 'No - we don't want/like/agree with that'. I voted 'Remain' but, unlike many of my dinner par...

While I am interested in the company, acknowledge they are FTSE250 with 5 years of increasing dividends, I wonder whether TMFPyad would ever have invested in 'Tritax Big Box' :-)

Re: Password Managers

I use pass on Linux which is backed up to my NAS.

The thought of using an 'online password manager' or sync'ing to a cloud service seems counter-intuitive and almost contradictory.

If the provider gets hacked, then you have a real problem.

This is the main element I am interested in. Interim held for third year running. Final static for 2 years. Not a cutter though.

Interim dividend maintained at 2.7 pence per share, as previously guided

Re: My blog

It sounds like your hosting company answered your request for 'a blog' by selling you a WordPress blog and 24 months hosting which was rather more than you wanted or needed. However, don't be discouraged. You can get started with a blog and use WordPress completely for free (without any need for a h...

Re: Losing the faith - should I just sell and move to funds (Poor Performance / Renationalisation)

Although, I follow this thread with interest and an toying with a similar partial shift to IT's although my current provider AJ Bell my annual charges would increase significantly (8 fold) which deters me somewhat. I don't think that's quite correct. As usual with Brokers, there's no difference in ...

Re: Losing the faith - should I just sell and move to funds (Poor Performance / Renationalisation)

I know is that my HYP has delivered an income that increases year on year (with the exception of 2009). Apologies due here. As I added another pension pot in 2014, my analysis was rather flawed. After the swingeing dividend cuts of 2008, it took my HYP a full six years to return to those annual inc...

Re: Losing the faith - should I just sell and move to funds (Poor Performance / Renationalisation)

My main current concerns are I have United Utilities showing a 10% loss and SSE a 2% loss and National Grid showing a 55% profit. My gut feeling is get rid of UU and SSE and keep a very close eye on NG am I mad? Should I be ignoring the current political environment? Am I better off just converting...

Re: Rail track workers

Trackside rail workers do not rely on hearing the train! They have lookouts up and down the track who sound a warning, and the section of track they are working on is also notified to the drivers when they log in so they can sound their horns as well. But wearing ear defenders, due to 'H&S' con...

Re: Glastonbury highlights?

It was also interesting that there now is a sizeable cordoned off rectangle in front of the main stage - presumably for VIP's. Sort of grates with the original spirit of Glastonbury. Or that there aren't a huge mass of people squeezed together that move in a "blob", that's when bad things...
