Re: windows 7 end of support

Just a quick thing......it will delete everything on your pen drive. Luckily, I had a back up from Monday, so I've only lost a couple of documents and will have to update a few entries on a spreadsheet....but that could have been a monumental pain. Is there any particular reason you didn't want it ...

Re: win 7 -> win 10 mail...

Are all the old emails still on the server(s)?. No. there's a load of folders she's created with emails in and they are not on the sever so i think she must be using pop . As it is on the new win10 PC I've set up thunderbird and that cant connect to imap (btconnect account) but can for POP. Seems t...

Re: win 7 -> win 10 mail...

Are all the old emails still on the server(s)? If yes then just IMAP that to the new email client. (Or as a safety/backup IMAP to another webmail service first like Gmail so it's mirrored on an entirely different ecosystem, you can always wipe it later if you want). Using IMAP will preserve the enti...

Re: Farewell Section 21???

Section 8's... There was recently a discretionary Section 8 eviction in my flat development (luckily nowhere near my flat), which had been going on for well over a year, involving the managing agents, the police (threats were made), social services, the council et al. There was a child involved who ...

Re: Farewell Section 21???

I've been on both sides of this argument as a renter on an 'assured tenancy' who got incorrectly served a Section 21, sat it out and eventually got paid a decent sum to move (having read up at the library on all the relevant legislation, made notes and then got a property solicitor to check it over ...

Re: choices??

W10 and Android are pretty good together these days. Since MS gave up on their own mobile OS they have developed loads of free Android apps, so you can run a dual/parallel ecosystem pretty much. I'm still using all the free stuff, MS Office Online/OneDrive, Google Docs/Google Drive et al as my docum...

Re: Microsoft Data Breach?

My question was to try and ascertain whether this was a general breach at Microsoft (a pain, but containable) or an indication that some aspect of my sprawling online and private data has been hacked exposing more than just a couple of throw away email addresses (maybe I did keep those details in a...

Re: Third hand for soldering?

I've got a couple, the bendy 'Octopus' types are better for accuracy I've found, although if dealing with heavy cables they can sag, in which case the rigid metal armed type is better.

The main issue for me is my eyes these days, even with glasses my soldering skills have become pretty useless.

Re: 22year old daughter scammed of £9,750

I tend to agree with the posts about any legal recourse being a no hope pursuit as the banks tend to robustly defend even when on shaky ground, but I did find this from a google search (although it is from 2015). https://www.theguardian.com/money/2015/sep/12/big-cash-withdrawals-bank-barclays-denied...

Office Outlet

https://www.officeoutlet.com/ A number of our stores are closing, so pop in to grab yourself a bargain in our closing down sales. Everything must go! When it's gone, it's gone. Check on Google Maps for your local store. I bought an HP Laserjet Pro M15a for £24 yesterday from their Salford store, nor...

Re: Visual Basic script

Not the answer you're looking for but could you not save the spreadsheet in both .xls and open document formats (.ods .fods) so that the OO user(s) can file associate that way? If there's no macros involved then using the free MS Office Online to open .xls from Dropbox would also work if it's a pred...

Re: what use is a windows phone now?

Have you checked out its utility as a door stop at all?... :twisted:

FWIW I've had no issues with an older Android phone (2013 now on 6.0.1) in conjunction with a W10 (1803) desktop, the interoperability/sync isn't 100% but it's close enough to make daily use of both perfectly useable.

Their responses do sound slow and shoddy ... unfortunately that's not so unusual for any customer service dept nowadays..... It's box tickers all the way until you can break through to someone with genuine technical knowledge, an increasingly difficult task. I remember in the early days of Vodafone...

Re: gmail or paypal problem

No I meant alarm bells with you, not at Paypal. So since you didn't set up the account, don't confirm it and it won't complete. End of problem. Scott. I agree with Scott, I think this is probably a genuine mistake, not some elaborate fraud/phishing attempt. A colour coded Gmail filter/label can be ...

Re: gmail or paypal problem

I suppose the flip side is Gmail could say that if all the dotted variations go to the same account then it makes ID theft/impersonation harder, as registering a Gmail address of say an.other@gmail.com when another@gmail.com is already registered wouldn't work(?) The Netflix reverse scam in the link...

Re: gmail or paypal problem

I have requested that paypal tell me who their UK regulatory body is (if there is one) - with a view to reporting this affair. However that's a question they have so far refused to answer.

Wouldn't they fall under the jurisdiction of the FCA?

the downside is it is owned by Facebook... That might be considered an upside. When a company is so much in the limelight, you can expect to hear about bad things they do. Even straying into a grey area won't go unnoticed. AN Other might be getting away with murder if noone is looking. :? </advocat...
