Re: Removing bloatware in brand new laptop by reinstalling Windows 10?

You can uninstall bloatware from the W10 start menu via a right click on the specific app(s). Not all of it is necessarily superfluous, I have HP's Support Assistant on this PC I'm posting from (not mine) as it is an HP PC with a new HP printer, so firmware/driver updates, support info, warranty et ...

Re: Video driver Linux Mint 19.2

It's going to be quicker to reinstall Mint and set up timeshift/rsync (to your NAS maybe?) to regularly snapshot whilst you do the initial tweaks, than spend ages on this driver issue.

Re: Fire tablet or anything better?

Reviews are great for whittling down the options but I'd always get some hands on time in somewhere like Currys PC World.
The Lenovo tablets are pretty good for features v price, I was always quite impressed with them in the flesh (silicon?).

Re: 8 hours to install Features update 1903

The fastest way to upgrade to 1903 is to use the Media Creation Tool to download the ISO, mount it, then start an in-place upgrade by running the Setup.exe from the ISO. The ISO is what MS call the ' canonical download package' so it contains full copies of the system files. I have tested both meth...

For accurate reliable phone specs I've always found GSM Arena to be great.
They do the various worldwide, EU et al spec variations and their database is huge.

The advantage of browser based access is you can have control over cookies. For instance with my main bank account I block all the third party cookie cr*p like Facebook, Twitter et al that would otherwise be allowed and only whitelist the cookies that are essential for account access and functionali...

Re: Satnav repair

My Garmin 2599 is bust again. Sent it to Satnav Repair Service in North End Road 18 months ago, it came back working but with a battery that doesn't hold charge. Yesterday I fitted a new battery. Not as easy as it looks, the case didn't want to come apart. Now, it won't charge, doesn't come on, and...

Re: Email

I have had it with a few legitimate emails via legitimate bulk emailers over the past few months. One was from my main bank (via a third party bulk emailer) which I had to put into the address book eventually (basic 'trust this sender' whitelisting wasn't enough) to stop it being spam foldered every...

Re: Can't connect to the internet

If you don't get any joy with turning the router off and on, post the make and model numbers here of the router and the homeplugs. The fact that the two homeplug attached devices are having problems leans more that way IMO. Many homeplugs have reset switches (maybe a little pin hole thing) that will...

It may not be of any use this time round but for the future you can turn File History on in W10 (search box bottom left of the screen file h) and set it to save file versions at intervals of every ten minutes or higher (I have mine set to daily backups), as well as the cloud sync versioning addresse...

Re: SSDs in laptops.

You won't get it at the budget/mid range end but USB 3.1 gen 2 (10Gbps) and Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gbps for 4x) are quite common on laptops these days, and you can use faster PCIe NVMe SSD's (M.2) externally as well (with recent MB chipset support) via USB/Thunderbolt adapter cases. Even USB 3.1 gen 1 (5...

Maybe if you labeled all the incoming ethernet cables removing the patch panel would be less problematic for any future owners? Or maybe do a little schematic diagram? Mono laserjet but just check the replacement toner refill prices (are there cheap generics on ebay et al) as that's where they make the money these days, many come with a 'starter toner' cartridge which is generally half capacity.
