Re: Yahoo Mail filters

Still there for me, top right gear wheel, more settings , 7th menu option between vacation response and security privacy . Have you tried accessing it with a different browser? If that works then it's likely a browser setting (or cache that needs purging). If you aren't seeing any of that in any bro...

Re: Wifi laptop as gateway

A decent travel router might be able to do what you want, as the better ones are generally designed for multiple WAN (ISP) sources (Ethernet wired/WiFi/4G et al) to cope with the variable ISP availability options when travelling.

Re: WIFI Extenders

Can you post the make and model numbers of your existing kit, Sky router/box , previous router if you still have it and the WiFi extender as a minimum. Manuals can then be sourced online to check all the tech specs for compatibility and networking options. That way we might be able to work out a way...

Re: W10 0xc0000001...

I've been digging around some of the SSD manufacturer forums, seems that even if a drive can be seen over a SATA/USB cable it still may not be recognised in the BIOS over SATA. Power cycling routines may help, but it seems quite hit and miss. Power brownouts or outages can be an issue apparently, so...

Re: Iridium D400P laptop (and generally old and obscure computers)

I use DDG in FF Focus on Android (very good ad blocker/anonymous browser option that's replaced Ghostery for me after its last crippling update...) and in FF on Linux Mint.
DDG's got a lot better with its search over the years, I remember the first few times I tried it it was awful!

Re: W10 0xc0000001...

No the SSD's not visible in the BIOS either.
Disk 1 HDD
Disk 2 None
Disk 3 DVD

Edit: The error code is 0xc000000e (not ***1 as I initially thought).

W10 0xc0000001...

I'm posting this from the W10 backup HDD (luckily I'm set up multi boot) as I got an 0xc0000001 error code for the SSD C drive on boot this morning and it's completely disappeared now, not visible in device/disk manager/diskpart or anywhere else. My initial thoughts were it was just a corrupted wind...

Re: Annoying content ('''jokes''') from Friend in Facebook feed

On both the FB mobile app and the desktop browser version go to the three dots in the top right hand corner of the individuals posts, third menu option down is 'snooze (contacts name) for 30 days'.

Re: Annoying content ('''jokes''') from Friend in Facebook feed

I generally use the 30 day mute function in FB for friends who post too much cr*p to their timelines. Repeat as needed.
Acquaintances that do it continually get the full block.
Anything important they can use IM/SMS/email to inform me.

Re: Annoying content ('''jokes''') from Friend in Facebook feed

I haven't checked specifically but I'd imagine you could add individual URL's to the custom blocklists of browser extensions like uBlock Origin, Ghostery et al. Might be more difficult on phones though as they are generally app based where there's less user control than with desktop browsers. Androi...

Re: Best ear-plugs [vs noisy neighbours]

Just a thought.... what if the smoke or carbon monoxide detector goes off while you are sleeping and using earplugs? --kiloran Put a networked SA/CO alarm in the bedroom... You can still hear them (or I did anyway when the SA battery went low in the middle of the night...), just not at the ear spli...

Re: Best ear-plugs [vs noisy neighbours]

I've tried pretty much everything over the years on the earplugs for sleeping front and eventually settled on...https://www.superdrug.com/Health/First-Aid/Ear-Plugs/Superdrug-Soft-Foam-Ear-Plugs-3-Pairs/p/390802 Only caveat is they form a very good seal, so only put them in 3/4 of the way. Comfort w...

Re: Thunderbird and IMAP webmail settings

If you've got webmail access to the server then set up a POP3 inbox mirror copy to another webmail account as a safety first. POP3 is properly physically 'downloaded'. If you untick any 'delete from server' sync options it becomes an automated inbox archive effectively rather than a 'mirror sync' , ...

I use Mint also but I am tempted to try Zorin having read many favourable reviews from the past year or so, a plus is it has Wine already installed for trying out Windows apps.

Re: One laptop sees; the other does not.

I have re-booted the blind machine, but with the same result Did you 'shutdown' or 'restart' the laptop, as only the latter will be of any use in a situation like this, rebooting everything from scratch (cold boot). W10 uses 'fast startup' by default (you can turn it off), which is a quasi hibernat...

Re: Installing Windows 10

SSD's are relatively cheap currently and are probably the best bang for the buck upgrade you can do to an older PC to give it a new lease of life, as slow HDD's are a major issue wrt performance/speed. The other thing to check is how much RAM the desktop currently has and see if that can be increase...

Re: tesco.net email

Looks like Bree's suggestion has hit the nail on the head. I had a similar issue when my sisters old ISP address ceased and she switched to Gmail. As an A/B get the the original sender to actually log in to their new Gmail account via webmail (not Thunderbird) and send you a test email from there, I...
