Re: Deputyship/trusteeship selling home

Thanks for the suggestion. We don’t think we can even apply for a court order until the 12 week disregard ends (as he could potentially go home so a judge should not allow his home to be sold). It could take many months to get a court order and only then could we instruct an estate agent to put the ...

Re: Deputyship/trusteeship selling home

Looks like we need deputyship AND a court order to sell a joint property.

Deputyship/trusteeship selling home

Need some advice. MIL and FIL own flat as joint tenants. MIL would not agree to POA and is now incapable (decided officially on 11/7/17) and is permanantly in a nursing home. FIL is in hospital and going into a nursing home officially temporarily. Our expectation is that this will become permanent b...

Re: Selling house after lost capacity

I would think it’s very unlikely in his case but thanks for the point. The main issue is his mobility and risk of falls so just being frail and elderly. I’m fairly sure it would be personal and not medical. Does anyone know if she’ll qualify for a reduction in deputyship whilst the flat is a home an...

Selling house after lost capacity

MIL has lost capacity and is in a nursing home. FIL is at home but being reassessed and we believe in need of nursing care (alone, terrified of falling and high risk of falling). we believe it won’t be long before he is in care or hospital or dead. She always refused POA and we are managing without ...

Re: Loan for Top up carehome fees

Another update. We have had a very difficult time finding homes (visited something like 20). This was largely because MIL needs are very high on the residential scale and many homes said they couldn't manage her needs. A few weeks ago the assessment was changed from residential to nursing which incr...

Re: Loan for Top up carehome fees

I've only just realised (doh) that if MIL inherits and has to pay for her own care then there could be no money left to pay off a loan (unless it ways charged before LA fees).

Re: Loan for Top up carehome fees

Just thought I'd come back with an update. We've visited 13 homes and found 1 suitable. This is partly because of MILs disabilities. Unfortunately it's full so we are still looking. Social worker is pushing but not offering any practical alternatives (for example suggesting a place with stairs when ...

Re: Loan for Top up carehome fees

MIL would never agree to lasting POA. (Personally I did EPA when it was free). We are trying to set it up for FIL but having difficulty finding the relevant certificate holders (I think that's what they are called). These are meant to be people who know and would stand up for FIL but cant be family....

ClitheroeKid - as it's a joint bank account (between MIL and FIL) can granddaughter take money out with permission of FIL?

Re: Loan for Top up carehome fees

Thankyou all. Mike - we haven't looked at any places in person yet (decision that she needs a home made on tuesday, less than 2 days ago). I have only looked online at the moment and spoken to a few. I am trying to keep an open mind but it looks very 2 tier at the moment with the places in the LA li...

Alhambra audio guide

Has anyone been to the Alhambra in Grenada recently? I have booked tickets for July. Have seen different things about the audio guide, but not always dated, so don't know if it's current. Read that it's been replaced with an app but the wifi is poor. Has anyone been in 2017 or late 2016 and got any ...

Re: Air passenger duty

There are only 2 companies who fly to hurghada at the moment (Thomas cook and Thompson) so I can't see how it would be difficult, but it the charging of it that's the issue. Id like to have a conversation about this with the travel agent. Does anyone know if charging taxes that aren't due is illegal...

Re: Air passenger duty

I don't see why they can't or shouldn't be able handle it. EasyJet's on-line system can't handle it automatically, but you call them up (after booking) and they refund you there and then on the phone. Thomas Cook are not saying they can't handle it automatically, they are saying they are going to ch...

Air passenger duty

My husband is large. He is losing weight but still cannot travel in an economy flight seat. If premium/business is available we pay for that, but it's not always available so we normally pay for an extra seat. I've booked some flights to Spain this year and EasyJet have refunded the air passenger du...

Re: Off the tourist-trail attractions

My favourite would be Wellington arch especially when the horse guards are changing and ride underneath, about £5 but qualifies for daysout 2for1 if you gave train tickets. Sky garden is free but free tickets go really quick and come on-line around 8am on Mondays 3 weeks ahead. The Freemasons hall o...

Re: LONDON SOCIAL- confirmed: Thursday 30th March

How about the George inn Southwark - the only remaining galleried coaching inn.
I appreciate this is better for those who can easily get to south London, but that issue exists wherever you pick.
