Re: So the BBC took the Daily Politics

Yesterday a woman was going on about 'willy waving' men. Today a woman was getting excited about 'Amber Rudd's' (sic) Bodyguard. Imagine the reaction if male guests indulged in such blatant sexism. I like Jo. She's good. She looked very embarassed. Is this another example of the direction all media ...

Re: Landowners agree to Lynx re-introduction

Couple of years later, I camped late at night (in darkness). When I got up in the morning (daylight), I saw bear tracks in the snow around the tent. I never saw an actual bear, but a friend got some excellent photos of one that passed him on the trail (he scarpered off the trail when he saw it comi...

Re: Dod's farewell.

The majority of posters on that board know what the strategy is and abide by it. They may add their own refinements to the strategy , but that does not make the strategy invalid. TJH No. (My bold) The strategy is defined in the rules and may not be departed from. There's the rub. Which is why I pro...

Re: Dod's farewell.

As well as how , it is also where those criticisms are made. The High Yield Portfolios (HYP) - Practical board is not the place for criticising the strategy, it is a place of practical matters concerning the implementation of the strategy set out in the board's guidelines. The place to criticise th...

Re: A Brexiteer comes clean

The Article 50 timetable would need to be paused for a while (and arguably needs to be paused under nearly every other circumstance unless the EU do a volte-face and accept Chequers). There could even be a third referendum, with the questions being accept leave through EEA or no deal brexit. I thin...

'What's the UK Parliamentary coalition which is going to see this deal through?'

If necessary, martial law.

Re: A Brexiteer comes clean

No responsible government will allow the Brexiteers to ruin this country for all of us.

A deal will be done. We will be worse off than before but it will mainly hurt those who voted to leave. Which is only right.

Re: Property Prices - well done guys

There is no real wealth stored in house prices. If I build 10 houses and sell them for 10,000 each, they are worth 100,000, sort of. If Fred in number 1 sells his a year later for 20,000, they are now all worth 200,000 sort of. *It's not real wealth. You can't sell all the housing stock to Martians ...

There are always murmurings about abolishing the tax-free lump sum, especially when extra taxes are seriously being considered.

Re: Property Prices - well done guys

Lets put some present day numbers in. The average gross rental yield is just over 4%. £1 million properties are not uncommon in the South, which corresponds to a rent of about £40K p.a. The tax on that would be £8K to £16K, depending on the tax band. If we fully taxed the imputed rent, home buyers ...

Re: independent launches petition demanding referendum on Brexit deal

Can't see what good this petition will do. There's no going back now. We've seen on this forum the glee with which some self-flagellating Brexiteers greet the prospects of impending chaos - rationing, hostilities etc. The Dunkirk spirit, stiff upper lip, true British grit. Whichever way a second ref...
