Re: Is BT (BT-A) heading for a cut?

Maybe yes, according to some …. From Shares Magazine UK telecoms giant BT (BT.A) appears to be softening up investors to a future cut to its £1.5bn a year dividend as it balances rising fibre roll-out investment. BT’s management estimate that it will cost an extra £400m to £600m a year to accelerat...

Re: IT - NAV - Discounts & Premiums

Talking of premia/discounts - I noted that the Edinburgh Investment Trust plc (EDIN) is currently on a discount to NAV of over 12% - the lowest it has been for 5 years. The indicated dividend yield (Hargreaves) is 4.78%. Yes. By the lowest you mean I think that the discount seems to put it into bar...

Re: Should HICL Infrastructure Company Ltd be allowed on HYP-P as it is akin to a REIT

That argument could of course open the door to all sorts of ITs such as RIT Capital Partners and Caledonia to mention only two of them They both invest in assets that it would be difficult for the individual to access and I have no doubt that there are a number of others. Not comparable. Those have...

Re: AG Barr

Matt Reading so called investment gurus can be helpful but they all become variations on a theme. I found Peter Lynch helpful and Warren Buffet's earlier Letters very good. The later ones not so good. I use the IC to get ideas sometimes and it is often helpful to get their views on particular compan...

And the taxpayer is helping this lot? This is the company whose CEO got what was it £85 million?

Good luck to all the shareholders but not a company I would want to be invested in.

Re: Should HICL Infrastructure Company Ltd be allowed on HYP-P as it is akin to a REIT

And I think Lootman may have a point, but if you allow HICL on the HYP-P Board then why not all other ITs as well. As I pointed out earlier to me there is a good reason and that is that there are a number of different things to be considered with an IT, and maybe other collectives, different that is...

Re: Should HICL Infrastructure Company Ltd be allowed on HYP-P as it is akin to a REIT

I am bemused by this sort of discussion/argument and simply do not care where such and such a share is to be discussed. We are trying to maintain a certain board structure. That is one of the features that makes TLF what it is. That is why areas that turn out to be grey are sometimes discussed. The...

Re: Scottish Mortgage to Polar Capital Tech Trust

Yes I know, but if you are being serious, Patient Capital is a special case in most senses. With PCT you are paying Ongoing Charges of 0.95% in any case and if they exceed their benchmark a performance fee in addition. The OC is quite high enough surely and if the managers underperform there is no c...

Re: Should HICL Infrastructure Company Ltd be allowed on HYP-P as it is akin to a REIT

I am bemused by this sort of discussion/argument and simply do not care where such and such a share is to be discussed. I include ITs in my HYP anyway. I thought that the split between ITs and other collectives and individual shares was more because there are different considerations when dealing wi...

Re: Sold out of NGrid

Well it was obvious to me at the time because within my portfolio at £50, Unilever was a good bit over 8% by capital and £50 seemed a nice target to sell some.

Slip of the finger but I expect you meant over remunerated on your second line, not over re-numerated, although maybe you did. It is an interesting word.

Re: Sold out of NGrid

I think that may well be the answer. I make strategic changes more or less in January after my year end analysis and then just leave it unless there is an obvious thing to be done. (Such as trimming Unilever once it hit £50)

I agree Si. I have no argument with anything you say on AGB. My feeling is that they will be somewhat embarrassed by the outlook and felt that they had to say something. They seem to me to be a totally honest and honourable lot. But then I tend to focus on culture more than on the numbers so I could...

Re: AG Barr

The shares are highly priced for good reason. No borrowings and £21 million in the Balance Sheet, ROCE of 21% for the last year and a family shareholding of about 16%. What more do you want? This is a conservatively run great little company which has hit a bump in the road. Si may be right but may n...

HYD. With respect I think your wording was a little unfortunate. We are well away from the original topic now but there are a host of things that I think could be cut out of the NHS budget and this has been discussed before, probably many times. Cosmetic surgery, IVF treatment and so on for a start....

Interesting that you think RC 'has given a fair assessment of the situation', whereas mine was 'not grounded in any common sense'. As far as I can tell, we were not a million miles away in what we were saying . . . I don't want to fall out with anyone. This is an emotional minefield and yet you wer...
