Re: An asset summary

I have said that I wish to be cremated but that is as far as it has gone in the Will. I have written down what I want by way of a service, where my ashes should be scattered and so on and these notes are in a prominent place in the house where they will be easily found. Also told my kids. As for ass...

Re: An asset summary

Thinking about this, I am not very concerned and really do not want to draw up an asset register and anyway it will not be my problem. My affairs are fairly straightforward and I have no dependant nowadays so the asset side of things are of no real concern and will be fairly easily tracked down. The...

Re: An asset summary

If someone has an online account - no paper statements at all - and dies without leaving any information about it - presumably it will just sit there, untouched - for ever? I reckon someone will look at my PC and will find a reference to a bank even if not details of the account and can take it fro...

Does no one have to produce the pre payment certificate to the pharmacy and are the pharmacy not supposed to be the gatekeeper? I agree that that would not be very practical but I am pretty sure that the pharmacy occasionally asked for my late wife's certificate.

Re: somewhere to park and stay i9n a campervan in central london

My gut feeling is that a camper van would not be very popular in central London but I can't think why. As a matter of fact they are not very popular in North West Scotland either and probably the same reasons would apply in Central London, only more so. They take up a lot of road space, those using ...

I normally don't drink wheatbeer, but I sometimes drink a few of these alcohol free ones when skiing

I could understand it when driving but it must be quite difficult when skiing.

Good point Arb. As you know I do not run a HYP as defined on this Board so 4% is good enough for me. It is generally in the right ball park though.

Re: British Land

Thanks Walrus. It was not being clever on my part, simply that I wanted to stay in the general property sector and the timing worked quite well. The point however of my story was that I am sure there are better property plays than B Land and I was simply trying to illustrate this. Some dedicated HYP...

Re: Changes at Personal Assets (PNL)

He’s not timing the market. As he clearly states he will buy equities when he sees value. He doesn’t see value therefore he doesn’t buy. PNL is like insurance. You lose out to the feckless uninsured every year - until you need to claim! I did not claim they were trying to time the market. I used to...

If it is trying to time the market it is not doing a very good job of it.

You can get exposure to Lindsell Train IT through Finsbury Growth and Income. Finsbury is managed by Nick Train and has done quite well.

<leg-pulling mode on> Blnd shares are down and you say that's why you don't like them. Gleeson shares are down and that's why you do like them. DOH! <leg-pulling mode off> For what it's worth, I can see that Gleeson has put in a much better capital performance than BLND since Dec 2018, so it would ...

Re: Scottish Mortgage to Polar Capital Tech Trust

I agree Monks has been good since the change of manager at Baillie Gifford, probably a little less volatile than Scottish Mortgage as well with what I think is a slightly less adventurous portfolio.

Re: Writing up your Family Tree?

I have not got any further back than marriages around 1780/90. I do not know how I can identify the correct Fred McTavish say, around 1765/75. I am certain of the marriages because a death certificate in say 1861 after statutory registration was introduced gives me the names of parents, and I can ma...

Thanks Gengulphus. As a matter of fact I did not respond to ITH because it is not normally a very fruitful discussion and because I am familiar with all of the quotes cited and indeed practise the advice contained in them. I think though the most important two rules are those I quoted.

Re: Scottish Mortgage to Polar Capital Tech Trust

I do wish posters would not write in symbols. ATT apparently means Allianz Technology. Scottish Mortgage is not a technology trust. It happens to hold some technology shares but it is not in any sense dedicated to technology. It is much more dedicated to what James Anderson calls 'disruptors' and if...

Re: 'Yellow Pages' category for terrace cleaning/jet-washing?

Given the size you quoted and thus the area why not just do it yourself? It is a simple enough job, just a bit messy. Mind you do need or have access to a power washer although Jeyes Fluid may do the trick. There is also some other stuff like Path and Patio Cleaner which I have used and is effective...

Yes but I assume they think it will be a tracking error in their favour. Anyway if they just want to match the FTSE100, why not just buy a tracker? It seems a daft idea to sell at just about the lowest point, I hope!

British Land

I did not want to wander too far from the original topic on the ITH thread so I have started this new thread. It relates very much to British Land so bear with me! As some will know A & J Mucklow is the subject of a takeover offer from Londonmetric. I do not particularly want shares in that comp...

You may be right but beware of the danger of receiving comments you want to hear Isn't that the point of the HYP - Practical board? Indeed Alaric and therein lies its danger. I have seldom 'jumped on band waggons' and when I occasionally have it has usually not worked out well. I find the HYP Pract...
