Surely the esteemed clientele of this site would be more likely to be looking at the base of a champagne flute? :D

Re: Is Jiosoft a good alternative to Quicken

Although I used to scan for alternative personal finance software from time to time, I've never heard of Jiosoft. And judging by the lack of responses, it seems I'm not alone :) Looking at the website, it appears reasonably competent, but there's no way I'd fork out £35 for a relatively unknown prog...

Re: Sharing a home with a child

I believe the requirement for your daughter and her husband to have sole title is standard, because the names on the mortgage normally have to match those on the title. One way round the problem might be for your daughter and her husband to take out life cover to match the outstanding mortgage balan...

Re: Urgent help with neighbour issue pls

It does really sound as though the sewer pipe issue is a symptom of a larger issue rather than being the key problem. Has this potential harassment been raised with your solicitor? As you are no doubt aware, this sort of thing can open a can of worms, but if cannot face the thought of giving up and ...

Thank you!

Re: Moneydance as MS Money replacement - any advice?

I am interested in this as a portfolio management tool and have a few questions. Is MD formatted for US use only or is it formatted for UK use ? How does it handle multiple purchases of the same stock, can it calculate the overall rate of return Does it offer capital gains tax calculations Thanks I...

Re: Urgent help with neighbour issue pls

Are the neighbours seriously suggesting that without their knowledge or permission, you have dug up their garden and rerouted a pipe? I am not a lawyer, but surely if they are claiming this, the onus is on them to prove your guilt, on the balance of probabilities, rather than for you to have to prov...

Re: Italian investment firm to buy Morgan Motor Company

It puts me in mind of that other eccentric British car company, Trevor, or TVR.

Fine until it was sold to a Russian businessman.

Will there be any UK motor manufacturer after Morgan bites the dust?

Re: Can I re-buy investment within 30 days

You can sell then buy in an ISA just as quickly as you can get the funds transferred, (immediately if funds are separately available). Any gains on the sale will count towards your capital gains allowance, but the 30 day rule is of no relevence when the repurchase is within an ISA. Perhaps worth add...

Re: Annual Electricity Statement

You are very fortunate, the usual procedure with two qualifying people in a household is to split the £200 allowance into 2 * £100 and credit them separately. I think you get an increase at age 75. I suspect you have only had the one payment. Looks right to me, £200 is the household figure, as you ...

Re: Moneydance as MS Money replacement - any advice?

I'd say go for it. I moved to Moneydance probably a decade or so ago after Quicken abandoned the UK, the software wasn't updated and online quotes stopped. IMHO it isn't as polished as Quicken or Money, and the screens look a bit clunky at first, but it does what I want perfectly, has an Android app...

Re: SkyQ audio quality

I generally find Sky transmissions have a much lower volume than, say, Freeview, which means there has to be a higher degree of amplification. Could this be leading to a degree of distortion?

Re: Disposal of a tablet or two…

On a serious note, if I had a tablet which was definitely beyond repair, I would take the opportunity to dismantle it to see what was inside. I'd then smash anything which looked vaguely like a storage entity and then either dump it in the bin or take it to the recycling centre (aka local tip) depen...

Re: Just a Minute

Another fan of Just a Minute here. I first came across it when at school in the late 1960s, but didn't realise then that it was a relatively new programme. Nor did I know who Nicholas Parsons was at that time. I think this was before I was aware of him from Sale of the Century. ("From Norwich, ...

I'll wait for an employment law expert to come along, but would the employer not have some responsibllity towards him, as he has had an accident at work?

I realise it was not the employer's fault, but does this absolve them of any responsibility, financial or otherwise?

Re: Unitisation - Income vs Accumulation units explanation please

I don't differentiate between the two. If money is added to or withdrawn from the portfolio, I simply increase or decrease the number of units based on the prevailing current unit price. - If I want to withdraw money from the portfolio, I simply cancel units. - If I add money, I 'buy' units at the ...
