I hear you Dod, and I do agree with you. Hence my use of the word ‘may’ in my opening post.

Re: British American Tobacco - Update ahead of analyst and investor meetings

Thanks for this. Nothing untoward, dividend seems secure and BAT seems to be taking sensible actions. Not BAT but Tobacco related I had a fascinating 30 minutes yesterday in BoxPark Shoreditch (Hipster Mecca). Phillip Morris have a retail site (in a container) which is like walking into an apple st...

Re: OLTB's HYP - topped up Vodafone

I've been keeping a watchful eye on Vodafone regarding the supposed lack of cover for some time. My concerns are eased by the fact that, IMHO you could find fault with a number of my holdings in my HYP if you looked hard enough. I've watched their cash flow etc with interest with regards them being...

Re: OLTB's HYP - topped up Vodafone

I see that the yield on BATS & IMB is currently 5.97% and 6.99% (according to dividend data). Rounding up a bit, we have yields of 6% and 7%. Which one is the one most likely to maintain and/or grow the dividend? To be honest monabri, I have no concerns regarding either of them doing just that....

Re: OLTB's HYP - topped up Vodafone

and i topped up on bats as well .. :) Funnily enough, I was looking at BATS for next month’s top up myself. I have a full holding of Imperial Brands, and did top up my BATS holdings only a few months ago. A little more BATS wouldn’t hurt maybe? To get back on topic though, my VOD top up for this mo...

Re: Legal & General Completes £2.4bn Pensions Risk Transfer

I was wondering whether to top up LGEN, bearing in mind the yield now of c 6.20%, but am aware that they are asset managers and asset managers are particularly susceptible in the event of corrections and bear markets. So maybe I will seek a contender in another sector. (Disc: I hold LGEN and SLA in...

Re: Marston's - YEAR END TRADING UPDATE

I will confess to plopping a dollop into Marstons yesterday. A. Thanks for sharing that. Despite the current downward trend in the markets having thrown loads of juicy looking HYP shares into my sights, my planned top up of MARS is still going to happen. That will probably be my last top up of MARS...

Of the insurers that I hold, of whatever ilk, be it life or non life (LGEN, AV.,DLG.) I have the most confidence in Legal & General, a share I've held continually since my first purchase on 19 Jun 2006. I'm not worried about the subject of this thread, and trust the management to do their jobs, ...

Re: IDP HYP October Top Up

Personally, I wouldn't even know where to find analysts opinions. My take on getting some help on individual HYP share selections is to keep a good eye on the published share holding top tens by equity income funds and ITs. Ps I did say that I wouldn't ever post on this board again, as long ago as ...

Re: Reinvest or en cash dividends

Apologies, I asked the question in a very clumsy way. I meant to ask "reinvest in the stock from which the dividend has been paid" or take as cash for investment in the stock (or whatever) of choice. From the replies so far, it seems that take the dividends as cash and use to top up/buy s...

Re: Reinvest or en cash dividends

Is there any particular benefit to taking dividends in cash on one hand and re-investing on the other? I do not need the income and it may be beneficial to have the cash so I can redirect to the holdings as I see fit. Any comments appreciated. I have my dividends held in the cash element of my Hali...

Re: Top up pickering

This discussion has become very unHYPlike. Yes today I have Glaxo and tomorrow, Chesnara. October has continued like September although my divs will thin out a bit after next week. I will no doubt get a bit of a shock on Saturday when I do my weekly valuation but that is just too bad and of course ...

Re: Top up pickering

Entering up my "numbers" in spread-sheets today after the topup, brought home the fall in my portfolio value - so much so, that I thought there must be an error somewhere. However, a "rough and dirty" check down my HYPTUSS shows nothing glaring, and I further notice that since t...
