Re: 1921 census - Publication

Does that mean it will only be accessible via Findmypast? Looks like it , more here https://blog.findmypast.co.uk/1921-census-2630175088.html?fbclid=IwAR11nKbyQYrH6ClJ2T7Uz7328rcm2wATaYK-tGTH1NWCbvC1n77Zl5TI690 Same thing happened with the 1939 Register , Ancestry were a few years behind in getting...

Re: T.V. Licence scam

The OP might want to repost the image with the licence number details redacted, otherwise every scanning bot on the net will be storing that away for future use, and if they get a nice cross match with another database hack, then bingo... The number quoted in the image isn't my licence nu...

T.V. Licence scam

Received this today via email . At first glance quite plausible and I was nearly taken in as my standing order renews in March and I had recently received a letter outlining the monthly payment plan which was fortunately to hand . The letter showed my correct licence number and I don't pay via credi...

Re: X-Files, Amazon prime

A.C. your "previous" spooky house in West Cornwall just made the news in our local rag . :) Unfortunatly lots of pop-ups on that site make it a difficult read but luckily the Mirror picked up on the story . https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/gallery/inside-abandoned-home-infamous-satan-...

Maybe a bit too early but on the 1911 Census there are approximately 45 families in Scotland with a birth in County Longford .

Re: Trying to buy a print

You could try signing up to "the saleroom". I signed up to watch (via their live video links) auctions throughout the country at various auction houses . To be honest never bought anything but I believe you can get a reminder if a particular item you want comes up . Go here and click on &q...

Glass slides from 100 years ago.

Amazing car boot find in a box bought for £4 . Buyer would like to identify the family in the pictures .
They must have been fairly affluent as there was a note on the box mentioning holidays at Honfleur .

Re: Silicon sealant tubes

Recently I've had most luck saving sealant by leaving the nozzle on , wrapping a piece of polythene (usually a bit ripped off an old carrier bag ) around the nozzle opening and then winding round a miniature elastic hair band to secure the polythene . Similar to these . Which asks a further question...

Re: How to remove superglue

At least you haven't stuck your fingers together which is what I did a few weeks ago . I echo the sandpaper treatment , gets most of it off and then rinse under the tap with warm water and washing up liquid . Never thought of the nail varnish remover . Wonder if a bit of WD40 would do anything ? I a...

Re: The 1939 register!

According to the National Archives site the 1939 Register was used by the NHS to update changes by marriage and they were recorded up to 1991 ! There was no Census in 1941 and the 1931 Census had been destroyed by fire , so though it didn't give all the details of a census , it was all they had to u...

Re: The World Cup 2018 general pub chat thread.

It's quite simple - too many first-team players had a poor tournament. Dele Alli, Harry Kane, and Jesse Lingard That second half against Croatia was shocking, and we got what we deserved. I hope I won't be seen as being too biased, but we strongly missed having options like Chamberlain and Lallana,...

Re: Painting plastic garden furniture

Bumping this from just over a year ago to give an update . I painted the chairs last year with one coat gloss as mentioned above . (Just used up some old tins of paint from the shed). So far the old faded green plastic chairs destined for the tip and then painted in hideous colours are still survivi...

Re: Thailand cave rescue

I'm worried about the coach. I imagine that he will feel responsible for the death of that brave rescuer. I hope they manage to look after him. Of course there are different stories but I read one account that the boys went in the cave by themselves . They failed to return home and worried parents ...

Oh dear , we never really looked like scoring apart from set pieces .
Kane looked jaded much like Kevin De Bruyne did for Belgium the other night .
Ali and Lingard didn't really get a grip on midfield against those tough Croat defenders .

Bit worried about Young in the left back position he seems to be losing his man or the ball too often .
Wonder if Danny Rose will get a shout ?
