Re: Immigration

One of the main objections to immigration is simply the sheer numbers that arrive and over a 20 year period that number could amount to around 5 to 6m people which this country could have difficulty accommodating in terms of housing, hospitals and other public services as well as jobs at a time when...

Re: Boris Johnson PM - how it's going?

When it comes for all member states to vote whether an extension will be granted (assuming the infamous request is sent) will it be possible for the UK to exercise its veto by rejecting the extension thereby leaving the EU by default on 31 October? Am I missing something here?

Re: Immigration

It was my understanding that the million migrants imported into Germany and those settled in other countries will be eligible at some point for EU passports meaning they can relocate to anywhere within the EU. I do not understand why we should be more worried about non EU immigration and neither do ...

Re: How do you remember all your different passwords?

My passwords are saved in Google Chrome automatically. The fact nobody else has mentioned the facility within Google leads me to presume saving passwords in this way is unsafe. Is that correct?

Re: Premium Bonds

What's to explain? Obviously, if you have significantly fewer 'tickets' in a lottery than somebody else, then you have a lower chance of winning than they do! Ergo - over say one year, your return WILL (on average*) be expected to be lower than theirs. Simples! That's obvious. But it's not what the...

Re: Just got married

When's the divorce? ;) I'm with you but to get females liking Star Wars and the excellent Pulp Fiction is a near impossibility. I've just learned to tolerate Strictly but draw the line at the X Factor and Britain's Got Talent.

Laying concrete without expansion joints is a waste of time as cracks will appear. I would be tempted to pave over the existing surface.

Re: The Football Season 2019-20.

CP were the fourth best team I saw play last season - better than Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester Utd on the day. I cant believe how they struggled in the league given their performance when I saw them. I think they will surprise a lot of teams this year if they can keep Zaha. I don't hear views li...

Re: Fantasy Football

The Lemon Fool League has mysteriously appeared. Yes indeed. Seems that garfsuncle is still out there somewhere as he must have re-activated the league. Guess that he's hanging low because of too many Brexit posts on here, or maybe someone cheesed him off? Anyway, who cares, he's alive! YAY! Come b...

Re: Flat Ethernet cables

All my cables are flat as it is easier to channel them into the wall. I have bought many flat HDMI cables but only one ethernet cable from ebay for myself and son and all have worked well.

Re: Holiday Homes - Lodges/Static Caravans

My general impression formed from reading comments and hearing anecdotes over the years is that this smells like a very "scammy" area, characterised often by a large information imbalance between the park owners doing the selling and the public doing the buying... As such my strong suspic...

Re: Holiday Homes - Lodges/Static Caravans

I looked into buying a static caravan for the same reason as the OP. I found that the conditions of locating caravans varies considerably from site to site. Some charge high annual rentals but let you keep your caravan on site for an unspecified number of years and some specify you can only retain t...

My mum has banished Alexa. She doesn't like the idea of eavesdroppers on the desk Why? What is she doing on her desk? :D The Alexa is used by me mainly for the radio to listen to the cricket, Talk Sport and LBC which I couldn't otherwise receive on a conventional DAB radio here in the backward, inf...

For those who have an Amazon Echo you can ask Alexa if you have won. Of course you have to input your holder number just once but when registered you simply have to ask for the premium bond prize checker and the results will come through.

WPCT now at 49p and on a NAV discount of 38.8%. Quite how the NAV gets calculated when so many of the assets are unquoted is an interesting question. Anyone else watching it with a view to taking a punt? I can see it going down to mid 40s. I wouldn't go near it except I hold some bought in the orig...

Is now a Bad time to buy global Funds?

As heading. My portfolio is so heavily weighted towards UK shares I feel the time has come (belatedly) to diversify. Is now a bad time to invest in global funds given the low value of the pound or should I wait and see how BREXIT pans out? I was tempted to buy the Lindsell Train global UT to avoid t...
