Re: CD & cassette & LP costs

Off topic slightly but buy an LP at £22 and in 20 years time you'll have an LP that may still be worth that much, or maybe worth a lot more if it's a rare or collectable item. Buy a download today and you will still have a download but it will be worth absolutely nothing, zilch ... and nothing to pa...

Re: Recommendations for Win10 drive wiper please

Try the well respected Ccleaner by Piriform

https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download

Go to tools, drive wiper, select free space or entire drive and the number of passes. Works ok for me (and works on USB drives)

Re: SSDs in laptops.

Could it be that the laptop in question was converted to SSD when they were relatively new (& expensive).

From 2012

Some of the 40 or 60GB drives, while higher in price per gigabyte, are available for under $100

For $100 in US, read £100 in UK.

You could try looking in the 'temp' directory. Worth a shot if you haven't done a clean up.

c:\users\NAME\AppData\Local\Temp

Re: Fridge Problem

If it's the same as my old fridge, the blockage wasn't muck, but ice. I had to thaw it out by pouring hot water down the tube (with the fridge switched off, of course) until water started running out into the tray on top of the compressor. It was ok for a while but happened again a couple of times. ...

Re: Charging my car

I thought the benefit of 'all electric' was the huge cost savings. Seems that all is not what it seems. I average about 70mpg in my Ioniq (non-plug in) hybrid which equates to around 7.5ppm. And once the majority have made the switch, what will happen then. The government will have a huge fuel-duty ...

Nice one. Talk about straining at the leash. I had a Kwak 1000 a few years ago but I'll stick with the Bonnie now, it's enough for me at my time of life :)

I've just finished doing this myself tonight. Took about an hour or so. Download Macrium, attach the new drive via USB and clone the existing drive to the new drive. Worked like a dream.

Re: Varifocals

I too tried and failed with varifocals. The biggest problem was with reading, with such a small 'sweet spot' I constantly had to keep making small adjustments to the position of my head which I found annoying. I tried some bifocals from an online outfit and these do the job perfectly.

Re: Buying video content (TV & Movies)

Easier to buy the DVD and rip it to disk. Copy protection may be an issue but a google may help.

And then you'll own stuff rather than renting it. Or give them to charity shops if you want to avoid clutter.

I visited a clockmaker/barometer specialist a couple of weeks ago who sells and repairs antique items, including thermometers etc. Have a google to see if there any local to you. They may take it off your hands.

I've just finished watching them as well. I'm not quite 63 but have followed the series as long as I can remember. It's a pity that the series is limited to 3 x 40 minute programmes but it just goes to show that ITV can do proper telly when it wants. If there's one thing I'd pass on to my younger se...

Update - the glasses arrived yesterday and I'm perfectly happy with them. One pair is ideal which will become my main pair. The other pair is ok but not quite my style, but will do fine as a spare pair in the car. I'm about to order some more on their 2 for £16 deal which will do for the shed and of...

Re: Windows 10 version 1903 'May 2019 Update' now released

I had the same install problem twice. It installed ok on the 3rd attempt. I can't understand why it has to download it from scratch every time as a 4Gb download on a 2.5Mg broadband connection isn't ideal.

I caught up with this last night. A good watch, like most of the Storyville programmes.

Another cliffhanger (literally) over the weekend was "Free Solo" on C4. Edge of the seat viewing as a climber attempts the first free climb of El Capitan in Yosemite.

I'll let you know how they are as I ordered a couple of pairs of single vision rimless yesterday. £32 for two pairs, delivered. Glasses Direct, who I have previously used are not as cheap as they used to be. £120 for two pairs. As for reading glasses, Poundland (or similar outlets) sell them (guess ...

It all seems a bit "after the horse has bolted" to me. Huawei equipment has been in the core BT 21st Century network for the last dozen or so years at least. I often used to work on Huawei equipment in a former life as a data engineer in comms rooms, in both BT exchanges and private compan...
