Re: JPMorgan Global Core Real Assets IPO (JARA)

Silverstar - a stock-market truism is to never, ever buy an IT at IPO. Another is never to over diversify, so your holding of 51 trusts is frankly rather absurd. I wish you well; but be aware your holding will be in a trust standing at a premium and with a year or more of lag as it invests its new ...

Re: JPMorgan Global Core Real Assets IPO (JARA)

In my reading the JARA fees were beginning to mount up and also within the prospectus, from (my) memory, JPMorgan expected to be allocating shares at a 5% premium. The shares will open trade with a NAV of 98.5p and applying through HL (and presumably other platforms) you get an extra 0.5% share all...

Re: the NewRiver REIT (NRR) topic

Well, if no one else is going to mention it: nice price rise today of 6% or thereabouts. Gives a cosy feeling (if you are a holder) but doesn't alter the fundamentals which in my view are still good. I have watched the price, chart and trades as I do every day and while notoriously tricky to call i...

Re: JPMorgan Global Core Real Assets IPO (JARA)

From my understanding of the prospectus it is not a fund of funds in the normal sense of an IT holding other listed ITs rather it gives retail investors access to underlying Investments ordinarily only available to institutions. The OCF seems within the normal range for infrastructure funds. I belie...

Re: the NewRiver REIT (NRR) topic

SilverStar64 - I have shown you how to use a quote from the RNS which is quite acceptable here. No one's going to complain anyway as you were quoting an advertisement. Thanks for the advice. I was overly cautious with the don't quote large amounts of text from a copyright source rule. As I don't kn...

Re: Secure Income REIT

SilverStar - thnx for that - always good to remind one of stocks previously assessed and rejected. Something may have changed! There are of course those who may seem ultra-long term benefits in holding a stock yielding c3.8% and standing at a 3.5% NAV premium. Personally I am most certainly not one...

Re: Diversified non-UK income IT portfolio

Gbjbaanb, you're right Majedie doesn't fit the bill at all. Another downside of Majedie is that it has an expensive debenture: £20.7m 7.25% 2025 debenture stock despite paying off the £13.5m 9.50% 2020 debenture stock that's still quite a drag on earnings. As has already been mentioned above the bi...

Re: Lowland (LWI) share price decline

...I am thinking it may be a useful addition once again although recall that MoneyWeek expressed some concern in 2018 about the fiduciary business. I have not seen anything else expressing concern about what is usually considered a plus point of LWDB. You are right it wasn't a stellar performance b...

Secure Income REIT

This REIT is one of my core holdings and I was pleased to hear the encouraging half year to June conference call for investors. Here are my notes/key points: Optionality was a word used a number of times referring to the £230m warchest following the sale of the 8 least attractive Ramsey hospitals to...

Re: Proportion of portfolio in Investment Trusts

I would call that an objective not a strategy. And if you hold 51 ITs you have certainly got diversity so that box is ticked You are right I wrote an objective but within it is my strategy which is to invest 95%+ in investment trusts with a few shares for trading opportunities. I'm firmly on the ac...

Re: Lowland (LWI) share price decline

I own the other ugly sister - Law Debenture - and it seems like time to ditch it. LWDB is a conviction hold for me due to its additional income streams from the professional services business. My remarks above about the UK hold as the trust is 76.9% UK. It's performed better than LWI in my portfolio.

Re: Lowland (LWI) share price decline

LWI up 2% yesterday and the chart looks positive over the last 2 weeks. The managers are holding firm to their strategy and I support that. Reading the editors comments in this week's Investors Chronicle the UK market is not only competitively cheap it is attracting overseas buyers and just, maybe, ...

Re: Proportion of portfolio in Investment Trusts

Thought I'd look at how many trusts BMPI holds, the BMO income focused fund of investment trusts. Looking at the annual accounts to 31st May 2019 they hold 39 IT's. Of the 39 we hold 7. MIGO the Milton fund of ITs holds 41. I am finding this thread interesting and actionable, for example it's prompt...

Re: Proportion of portfolio in Investment Trusts

What actually is the strategy? Build a diversified portfolio of ITs to produce a dividend income equal to my salary at retirement (additionally I have a current and frozen DB pension, my wife is 100% SIPP), so about half of our current joint income. Also to create a capital value substantial enough...

I have subscribed to Sharepad for a number of years and find it an invaluable tool as I manage my Investments. Re: Proportion of portfolio in Investment Trusts

51 ITs! You started your post encouragingly, suggesting to me that with experience you'd distilled and honed your investment strategy... only for me to have that illusion shattered with the subsequent revelation. ;) I can see how you'd reach that concilusion but I'd like to emphasise the last 7 wor...
