Re: Dividends vs Growth and Tax

Hi All, I am relatively new to the TLF and as an income seeker it suits me very well in the main. But I guess that I am surprised that there is no obvious board (or set of boards) dedicated to discussing growth stocks. I guess any user could create a topic in Investment Strategies but this hardly gi...

Re: BP Trading Opportunity ?

Hi Again All, Well thought I’d have a bit more time to execute my plan but looks like the oil spike may be over already and BP has already lost about half of Monday’s gains. Oh well.....next time !.

SWEF...... Well I have a limit order set to buy some more at 101.5 if it ever gets there... ATB ... Pref Bit the bullet myself yesterday and bought £10,000 worth (hate paying the extra £1 if you go over £10K) at 102 in one of my wife's portfolios. Re: BP Trading Opportunity ?

Why not save yourself the trading & stamp costs and (short) spread bet the BP price? Take the profit once done and buy more shares. If you really do believe its "highly likely". Well moorfield, I guess that’s maybe what a confident trader would do. But I have tried spreadbetting and m...

BP Trading Opportunity ?

Hi All, BP up a tasty 5% today on the oil price spike. Can’t imagine it’s going to stay there if the oil price drops back as seems highly likely to me at some point. Thinking about selling while the price is elevated and buying back when the price falls back to secure a 5% uplift to my BP dividends…...

Re: Bump in the road

It would be naive to think that any wobbles in the US market would not be felt over here. Well I would agree that in general terms that the UK & European indices do tend to follow any significant trend taken by US markets - but not always. And in respect of specific sectors and stocks in practi...

https://www.ft.com/content/f638a3ac-d4d9-11e9-8367-807ebd53ab77 The FTSE All-World equity index has rallied almost 3 per cent already this month, clawing back some of August’s losses. However, many highly popular stocks suffered a sudden and brutal sell-off this week, a reversal that analysts have ...

Re: Buying Opportunities or Falling Knives

SWEF...... Hi Again BBB, Well I have a limit order set to buy some more at 101.5 if it ever gets there, looking at the charts it has been down there occasionally just recently. That was about the price when I bought my first tranche and as you say the price seems to operate in the range 100-110ish....

Hi All, Been a while since I held SSE (they were £13+ then......). And what will all this do to the companies treasured dividend I wonder ?. I remember being conce...

Every so often Quoted Data puts out a piece of research on JLEN. The latest is here https://quoteddata.com/research/jlen-environmental-assets-battery-storage-potential2/ and is well worth a read, not only because it focuses on JLEN but for the background info it gives on the whole sector. It also h...

Re charges on EGL, the KID shows: Transaction costs: 0.34% Other ongoing costs: 1.79% Risk factor: 5 Hi richfool, Quite so, though I'm told that the charges figures presented on KIDs are best treated with caution and that one is better advised to look elsewhere to get the most reliable figure eg th...

Re: Return of the Corbyn threat ?

What I've been curious over, of late, is whether having a fair chunk of their assets over in the US, derisks that part of their portfolio from being re-nationalised a la JC. Surely that would seriously complicate any attempt for a UK govt. to (re)take ownership? A politician who wanted to nationali...

Re: Return of the Corbyn threat ?

Have you had a look at the capital values of the utilities in period since the May 2015 election? Under the allegedly 'business friendly' Conservatives? Not a pretty sight. And it looks even worse against the background of a modest rise in the FT100. Hi 77ss, Well I agree a simple share price chart...
