Energy regulator to face MPs’ questions over role in blackout Official documents show Ofgem has known for 10 years that new safeguards are needed The blame game! Re: Boris Johnson PM - how it's going?

Only if you believe they want us to remain- I am no longer convinced that is really the case, imho they now just want us gone with as limited damage to the EU as possible. I'm afraid I have to agree. I think EU will be glad to see the back of us. Even if there is a new vote in the UK which results ...

A conventional arrow would be sticking out the other side. - but apparently its not. A crossbow bolt...

A tale of two bridges (for us engineering geeks) https://imgur.com/BTuFqKN.jpg The picture is taken on a ramble from Pitlochry along the bank of Loch Faskally. Before 1950, there was no Loch Faskally, and this was the river Tummel, crossed by an old stone bridge. The loch arrived with the building o...

Re: The Lemonfool my pic of the day thread

I'm up in Pitlochry this week, for the season of plays at the festival theatre, and when out for a ramble who did I see posting a letter? https://imgur.com/dpMvrnU.gif And just in case you didn't recognize her, or her faithful retainer, then here is another clue https://imgur.com/pN1h1XH.jpg and the...

Re: Boris Johnson PM - how it's going?

from the BBC site today:- And there was confusion after Mr Bettel held a press conference without Mr Johnson amid noisy protests by anti-Brexit protesters. Mr Bettel, who answered journalists' questions standing next to an empty lectern, warned Mr Johnson "you can't hold the future hostage for ...

Re: Starting Tips For Building a Portfolio

Scotia When you mention that brokers such as wealth club offer new shares in some vct's at lower prices than going direct, plus some trail comm rebated, are there any other costs like having to hold the shares on their platform or is it genuinely cheaper? I always buy my vct's direct from the issue...

Re: Starting Tips For Building a Portfolio

Hello, I would like to buy a selection (undecided exactly which) of these: ............ I have looked at WealthClub.co.uk, and none of them appear to be available there. Are there any other way to buy any of them? Thanks, B If you are intending to purchase new issue VCTs - to get the tax relief on ...

Re: Boris Johnson PM - how it's going?

But to put it even more simply - the idea that a clean/no deal brexit would be an end to the brexit process would obviously be a good electoral message for Boris thus statements undermining that position hurt Boris' electoral chances. agreed - but I suspect the general public are not currently awar...

Snorvey - apologies for the duplication - I didn't check the sports boards.
And commiserations on Saturday's result - although it pleased my wife, who is a Wicker.

Highland League

Just in case it slipped Snorvey's attention - Fort William beat Clachnacuddin on Wednesday, so they are equal on points with Lossie, having played one less game! However they are both sitting above Huntly and Clachnacuddin - so it looks like there is real competition for the wooden spoon. Lossie are...

Re: Chrysalis Name Confusion?

BusyBumbleBee - Chrysalis VCT has performed well in my spouse's portfolio. It was a market purchase in 2013 (at a discount) then was subject to a "Share Realisation and Reinvestment Program" which resulted in an enhanced tax relief. And it currently is paying substantial tax free dividends...

Re: Boris Johnson PM - how it's going?

Can we get this thread back on topic ? Ok - the thread is about Boris. Anyone with any sense (and that includes Boris) knows that the Manna from Heaven (or wherever) he promised is complete nonsense, but it succeeded in making him Prime Minister - his sole goal. The Vicar of Bray comes to mind. Ryc...

Re: Boris Johnson PM - how it's going?

Cameron said "This choice can't be undone". But we already had an in/out vote which was massively in favour of in. So we are proposing to undo it by a slim majority. Hence there seems to be no reason at all why we shoudn't change our mind yet again - just as we regularly change our minds ...

Chrysalis Name Confusion?

I was reading a note issued by HL today on fund manager Merian, and I came across the following:- In 2018 Merian launched an investment trust, called Chrysalis, to invest in promising companies that want to remain unquoted for longer than they would have historically. Merian plans to grow Chrysalis ...

The significant point is, unlike some hard Brexiteers, I don't think the war with Germany (Europe?) is still going on in 2019! agreed - though sometimes from the utterances of Brexiteers it seems like Merkel has got us in her grip, and plucky little Britain (or should it be England?) led by superio...

You're part of the older generation if your trousers stop half an inch below the ankle bone. Fashions flare and die the death. Did you say flare? I have a pair of authentic seventies jeans with 24 inch bottoms, which I can offer at a most attractive price to a suitably informed connoisseur. Yours f...
