Paper hankies

Most useful items, easy to carry, handy to have, easy to dispose of BUT the spawn of the devil when you miss one in a load of washing!!!!! I've just spent a cold 15 minutes standing outside trying to shake what seems like thousands of pieces of confetti off wet washing. I swear I checked each sleeve...

Re: Taking a rental car over to France/Belgium

When our friends lived close to Newhaven we used to go over to France for the weekend as foot passengers and rent a car over there. It was cheaper than taking a car over and one of the major supermarkets used to do car rental.

Re: Disposing of worn textiles

I still make rag rugs out of stuff that is too worn for the charity shop. We have a "Stitch and "Bitch" session once a week in our local community centre and some of the youngsters are amazed at the idea of making rugs out of odd bits of material. I expect my generation will be the la...

Re: Bloody teachers, or schools!

My grandson is a teacher currently teaching at "The Last Chance Saloon", or a school for evil little barstewards as he sometimes puts it. He loves it, he says compared to teaching in a comprehensive it's a doddle. In the main the kids realise that this really is their last chance of a norm...

Re: Our Cat

We have 3 cats at the moment, the oldest is 19 and the 2 younger, brother and sister are 4. They are total pains in the rear end, fussy eaters, turn their noses up at their own food but will eagerly devour any rabbit they happen to catch. At night they sleep in the utility room which has a cat flap ...

Sell it to my friends son in law, he washes his car at least four times a week, even more if the sun is shining. I think he needs a more productive hobby.

Re: You haven’t been on holiday until . . .

Well done HYD. There is something very heartwarming watching people enjoying something they've never experienced before. We have an outdoor pool - well it's an extremely large duck pond with an island in the middle :D Most people my age and their children have learned to swim in our duck pond. Dad u...

Women Drivers

This morning I was driving through a nearby village which has no parking facilities but plenty of cars parked on one side of a fairly narrow road. I stopped several times and nipped into gaps to let cars through and I couldn't help but notice that all male drives acknowledged this but not a single f...

Long shot but my favourite sherry is a very dry "La Ina" which seems to have disappeared from UK supermarkets and other nearby outlets. I can buy it from some London based suppliers but the shipping costs etc. are high. Can anyone recommend a similar sherry which is available in supermarke...

Re: Hillwalkers Ramblers Flâneurs

I'm lucky enough to live in the Clwydian range here in N. Wales. I do about 5 miles plus every day because we have a dog amd no matter what the weather she is raring to go. When we holidayed in France we always tried to stay near a river and walk as much as we could along it's banks. Although I like...

Re: 50 years old

I didn't understand it either. I often see runners going along the path on our bottom field and they never look happy. The dog is always pleased to see them and accompanies them as far as the road, so far she's managed to beat them all. I walk about 5 miles most days and am reasonably fit so that'll...

We've recently returned from holiday in Dorset and I have to say that having travelled over most of England and Wales I've not come across a more friendly bunch of people. They certainly made for a very enjoyable holiday.

OH and I are both Pratchett fans and miss his work. Can anyone recommend similar styles of writing, I want books with humour as I'm fed up with all the doom and gloom around these days.
