Re: Why can't we design wheelie bins?

Is it really so difficult to design a wheelie bin with a convex rather than concave lid, so that I and the bin do not suffer a flood of water whenever the lid is raised? The mind boggles! Really concave, or flat-but-sags-in-the-middle? We have convex lids. And fewer bins than you. Two bins are OK w...

Why can't we design wheelie bins?

My local council has decided that my black bin, blue bin and two brown bins is not sufficiently complicated, so they've just foisted a green bin on me, along with a devilishly complicated pick-up schedule, which will result in all my near neighbours having different coloured bins out on collection d...

Re: Radio interference

Many/most electrical items such as TVs, computers, phone chargers and LED light bulbs contain what is known as a Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS), which converts the mains voltage of 240v to a level more suitable for small electrical items. An inherent characteristic of an SMPS is that it generates...

Re: New laptop thoughts

I always take the precaution of setting up a second local account and make it an administrator, just in case the first account gets corrupted and I cannot log in. There is a built-in account called Administrator but this is disabled by default (and for good reason, leave it that way). It is possibl...

Re: New laptop thoughts

The last time I was in Currys/PCWorld I thought I'd have a look at exactly which build of Windows the OEMs had put on their laptops. While I was delving in the depths of the system on one laptop an assistant came up to me. He very quickly realised I knew more than him, the conversation quickly turn...

Re: New laptop thoughts

The only negative I've found so far is the power connector. It plugs in to the RHS and is a 90 degree angled connector so the cable hangs down. With the laptop on my lap, if I move my right knee it hits against the moulded connector, and I'm worried that this slight stress may be a problem over tim...

Re: New laptop thoughts

I have a new laptop! My brain aches from all the research over the past few days. Just WHY is there so much choice? I got to the point where an HP Pavilion was my likely target. I went to Currys yesterday to have a gander at laptops in the flesh, and got even more confused, exacerbated by being inte...

New laptop thoughts

Well, my main laptop has gone to meet its maker, which is pretty good timing with black friday deals available. I'd like to get a replacement in the next few days. There's a frightening choice out there. I'm not price constrained, but don't need anything outrageously powerful, just decent value. I t...

SSD prices are very cheap at the moment ... Just noticed that the SANDISK SSD Plus - 480GB , is on Amazon at just £51 delivered - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01F9G46Q8 Itsallaguess Oh, great! After persuading me to spend £66 on one a few weeks ago, now you tell me it's £15 cheaper. Groan! And to r...

Re: Amazon and post code?

Your IP address is usually sufficient for that. Try a Google search for "Where am I" and see what it says... https://www.google.com/search?q=where+am+I Though sometimes it get's it hilariously wrong and tells you where you ISP is located instead. :D You can say that again. Apparently, I'm...

Re: There could be gold in them there LP vinyl hills

I got rid of my LPs about 4-5 years ago. I too was amazed at potential prices, such as £400-500 for Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn. After much thought, I decided that eBay and the like were potentially too much hassle (buyer might decide that my description of "Good condition" is ...

I'm no expert in these matters, but don't let anyone persuade you to get a Vaillant VRT-392.

Mine works extremely well, but you would need the brain of Einstein to understand how to use it (especially when you change the batteries and it defaults to german!)

I'm using "v11_52" in Excel 2010 (32 bit) on a Windows 10 o/s. The forecast yield info for SLA (and ITV) comes backs as ??? (and after a while it crashes with a runtime error). The share prices come back correct and very quickly. Forecast Yields for SLA and ITV are fine for me, using v11....

Re: Dripping float valve in loft

Does it still drip if you lift the arm up a bit? If that stops the drip, you might just be able to bend the arm so that the float is lower in the water, and so puts more leverage on the valve.
Not as good as a proper fix but may be good enough for now.
