Re: RAVP

I bought a very few more recently, at a YTM of around 7.23% - I like the idea of the bond like nature of these and the fact there is an end in sight !! Woz Woz, if you think these are like bonds I'd say you're deceiving yourself. They are common or garden redeemable preference shares, absolutely 10...

Re: RAVP

Just to deviate very slightly - I hold a few RAVC - the 6.5% Convertible Shares, as I know a few of the old TMF posters do as well if I recall correctly These appear, according to the prospectus, to rank above RAVP. They mature in July 2026 at 135p per share This from the prospectus Subject to being...

Re: Bond funds available to stocks and shares ISA

Mel Agree you should read the threads on preference shares - if you didn't follow them at the time, allow yourself until Christmas to read and digest them all If you then still have the will to live, you might want to consider the following investment trusts. None of these are pure bond funds and/or...

Re: Are gilts too pricey to buy right now?

If you don't need any income or capital in the next 10_ years then buy a tracker - FTSE 100 or similar - some might say the market is too high right now - if you agree with that view then drip feed into it - you'll never call it spot on Agreed. We are currently looking for a "World Equities In...

Re: Plans for "irredeemable" prefs?

Sold all of my Santander Prefs first thing this morning SAN at 173p and SANB at 140p All of my sales yesterday and today were with Selftrade and all routed to dealer , although if you put a price limit on that screen and tick to have the order cancelled if they can't achieve that quantity and price,...

Re: Plans for "irredeemable" prefs?

I just made my final CGT sales. None of our Prefs were included, although having just now recylced some of the proceeds into top-ups, neither did I buy any more as I am very fat on Financials. We have the usual suspects, incl the LLs, STAC, the SANs, NWBD, ELLA, the AVs, GACA; also BP.B, NTEA, RUSP...

Re: Plans for "irredeemable" prefs?

Just been trying to get actual quotes for selling Lloyds, Santander and Standard Chartered Prefs but in all cases would have to have request put through to a dealer - so looks like a lot of people are trying to sell now the flag has been raised. Hopefully just people trying to offload before end of...

Re: Plans for "irredeemable" prefs?

Paul I had over-bought bank and insurance prefs a couple or so years ago, and so I pruned back by about 30% by selling all insurance prefs (before Ecclesiastical made their announcement) and some LLPC and some NWBD. This leaves me Lloyds, Santander and Standard Chartered, and NatWest (RBS) in financ...

Re: Buying retail bonds - IWeb not very good?

The Selftrade questionnaire was about four years ago I think, and, as reported, they dropped it. Personally I prefer to trade on line rather than use the telephone, but maybe that's just me. Also on the rare occasion I need to trade whilst away fom home, it's easier and more private. Keep us informe...

Re: Buying retail bonds - IWeb not very good?

The inactivity fee will clearly eat into your interest receipts, so you will have to do the maths to see if that is a show stopper for you Over the years I have built up a number of investments, many of which I hardly trade , but as far as the retail bonds are concerned I manage to escape at least t...

Re: Buying retail bonds - IWeb not very good?

Most retail bonds are available for on line dealing with Selftrade Occasionally the order will be put through to a dealer (if you wish) - also options for max price, what to do if not filled etc - all online. Plus option for dealer to phone you if can't fill I once wanted a rare one which wasn't lis...

Re: Learning about investments in bonds

Melanie + Hubby Mark's book is regarded as a "Bible" by many new FI investors He used to be with the company behind this website http://www.fixedincomeinvestor.co.uk/x/default.htm l That site has a lot of useful info. have a browse round it. The forum is not as intense as some, but is very...

i have read through twice and still not sure what 11 means - does this only refer to GA or all of the prefs

(Will try again later - have done little else today except read, ponder and do what-if scenarios about all this !!)
