Re: Petro Matad - Fully funded 6 well campaign for H2 2018/H1 2019

This could be a perfect sandpit for our resident shorter ....but perchance he burned his fingers when HUR jumped 17% yesterday? this well looks more like a straight punt on the 3.30 at Kempton Park, at maybe about 3:1. I've got a modest stake on it, more than I ever bet on a gee-gee, I have to say....

This article https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/Shale-Drillers-Keep-On-Falling-Into-The-Same-Trap.html suggests that shale drilling is largely unprofitable in the USA and that small to medium size producers are mostly on a hiding to nothing followed by this article https://oilprice.com/Energ...

the article says I took these data and developed a model that predicted the price increase associated with seventeen of the nineteen disruptions, excluding the Arab Embargo and the Conoco attachment of Iranian assets. The model explained seventy percent of the price variation. The graph below compar...

Re: Enquest

Opinions seem to be very divided about ENQ. The rise noted by Hiriskpaul has been sustained over the last2 weeks, but that's all. I was considering buying some ENQ a while back, but held off and bought some ENQ1 (bonds) instead. If it follows the pattern established by PMO/PMO1 (Premier), the bonds ...

Well, I strongly suspect Doris (who incidentally is neither known to have owned a HYP nor known not to have owned one) employed a discretionary broker, with instructions not to bother her with such matters but just deal with them, while otherwise leaving the portfolio alone. She was certainly wealt...

Neither Technical nor Fundamental analysis can do much to predict a plunge of 11% like that of PFC last Thursday to 467p as more bribery revelations emerged in Iraq. I suspect that any competent company seeking contracts and dealing with Johnny Foreigner in the Middle East, or anywhere else for that...

As of January 2019, U.S. generating capacity at NGCC power plants totaled 264 gigawatts (GW), compared with 243 GW at coal-fired power plants. at least some of the "disappearing" coal fired plant is being converted to biofuels, e.g. Drax and several others in the UK, see http://www.biofue...

The Verbier well came in at the low end of expectations, closer to 25mmboe than the hoped for 130mmboe. The well failed to find the expected Jurassic reservoir sand, causing JOG to plunge from 228p to 99p on Wednesday, 3/04 before sagging further, closing the week at 76.5p. It just goes to show that...

Re: Shale matters

Oil taxation under Ghadaffi was extortionate, and I presume that has not changed, as the new Libyan administration needs generous financing (possibly even two competing administrations!). Hence, I suspect Total will need a lot more than a couple of years to get their money back.] yes, good point. t...

…….Stating the obvious, in a savings account you are guaranteed to lose money in real terms at the moment….. We seem to be considering only downside risks here. PBs have a small chance of a big win. These unfortunate OAPs (several years younger than I am, I have to say) probably need a bit of excit...

Shore Capital 8th June note on BPC on the download link below : https://we.tl/UYpZJGIaG0 I would say that it's a fair assessment, as the actual chance of drilling success is rated at 10%, in line with OGJ's "under 20%", see https://www.ogj.com/articles/print/volume-92/issue-52/in-this-iss...

Re: Has oil price topped out?

It could be a tricky balancing act, but financially it's a much better route for SA etc than trying to flood the market. I'd guess $70-90 is probably optimum. yes, good point. One interesting thing is that in days gone by, $70-$90 was enough to stimulate quite a lot of quite speculative exploration...

Re: Has oil price topped out?

it's an interesting dynamic. The effect that high prices might have in choking off oil and gas demand is surely small compared with the excess supply that could be unleashed by production not being constrained by OPEC. Reducing supply by a few percent can double the OP, e.g. recently from $40 to $80...

When I read GS’s post about getting rich quick from banks I sighed and double sighed. And then sighed again a few more times for good measure. I have held this rubbish since before 2008. LLOY, BARC and RBS, all of them. However, the discussion set me thinking. To make a million from 3k, you could do...
