Extraordinary that Germany is still operating aluminium plants. Expect those to be closed.

Re: Tumble dryer broken

We use ours in the middle of the day when the sun shines........via our solar panels........so it's completely free of charge and there is no global warming. Yes, but you could still do better by exporting the solar-generated electricity. But what I do not understand is why not put them outside if ...

Re: Tumble dryer broken

Do you really need a tumble dryer?
Can't you do an air dry on the washing line? Make a contribution to reducing global warming. Better for you and the environment.

Have you cleared the cache recently? And clear some of the other stuff too.
Also run CCleaner https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download when I expect you will clear huge amounts of temporary files

Re: W7 Microsoft conspiracy theory.

This discussion is getting silly. As Breelander says: "Those with problems would shout loudest. Don't let a vocal minority convince you that they are the majority..." The fact is that most users are now using Windows 10. See "After finally passing the 50% mark in May, Windows 10 stall...

Re: W7 Microsoft conspiracy theory.

In short, people end up with version X of windows because that is what their last purchase came with, not because they actually wanted X over (X-y). Its a fair accompli rather than a unilateral decision. Not true at all, in my experience. Both our PCs used to run on W7 and we upgraded to W10 during...

Re: W7 Microsoft conspiracy theory.

Very disinclined to go for W10.

Why? W10 has long since overcome any initial glitches and is faster than W7, so might improve your computer's performance anyway.

Re: How do I construct this MS Access Query (or SQL query)

Why don't you use the built-in Query Designer/wizard? It should handle this. In any case it is always useful to get the 'basic' SQL code which can then be tweaked manually if required.

Re: No printing by wireless when p.c. online

My printer (HP) prints by wireless command from my p.c. (Dell, using Windows 7) offline, and until recently printed by wireless online. At the moment I have to download documents and print them offline. I don't understand this. Are you saying that on the same PC you can print documents from a word ...

Re: Plusnet bills

Something like this happened to us last year with the annual payment one can make to get a reduced rate. They treated it as a credit for the other monthly payments due. So nothing was taken for a couple of months, but eventually they sorted it out and collected the amount owing. Just enjoy the 'free...

Re: Prepayment cards

Cash withdrawals appear to attract a credit card like fee. It wasn't clear whether you could just have one card where the card user wasn't the same person as the holder of the bank account financing it. That might not be a problem with the unrestricted account as two cards could be issued, but that...

We use an Optimum card http://www.myoptimumcard.co.uk/ It is a Mastercard and we use it for low-value contactless payments. Top up from bank account or using a debit card from the web site. There are no fees, except a one-time set up fee of £5. We don't use our main cards for low-value contactless p...

Re: Where's left for a CREST account? CSD Twist the knife!

Yes, I can move to another CREST sponsor or another nominee for free until 24 June. I originally only went to CDS (Fastrade as it was) because of the CREST account, so will probably move as their nominee options are not as good as ii with whom we have our ISAs.

Re: Where's left for a CREST account? CSD Twist the knife!

Can I ask something? Why do you guys want printed versions of the annual report? You can get them quicker and easier in pdf form and are available to download at a moments instant if you find there is something you want to look up. In this day and age I'm surprised companies are actually still prin...

Re: Where's left for a CREST account? CSD Twist the knife!

I have had a reply from CSD. Not much change and the nominee procedure for voting and attending AGMs is not as straightforward as my other stockbroker (ii) we use for ISAs. ii also have a good dividend re-investment service, something I have requested more than once for CSD to introduce. CSD also wa...

I received my e-mail at 19:30 this evening, and the start date was given as 1 July, not June. Ah, I see that although the email says in one place: "The new charges will take effect from 1 June and 1 July 2019" at the end of the email it says: "The changes will become binding on you a...

Re: Where's left for a CREST account? CSD Twist the knife!

Yes I too am appalled by Charles Stanley hiking the fee from zero to £504 pa. And they give only 10 business days notice, which is miserly and the minimum they can in their T&C. Actually, as I have pointed out to them when complaining, they have given only 9 days' notice since 27 May is a bank h...

Please take a GOV.UK survey

For the past two weeks or so I have been receiving emails from GOV.UK inviting me to participate in a government survey (I previously agreed to take part and have done one over the phone as well as on-line). The wording is: Thank you for your participation so far in the GOV.UK user research panel. W...

Re: JISA for Daughter

I'd go for a couple of ITs as in your original idea. We started a general IT - Witan - for each of our grandchildren (pleasures to come!) and when they were 9 increased the monthly payment and added SMT. Have done quite a bit better than 7% a year. When I last checked it was over 11% which has made ...
