Re: Corbyn calls for backing in forming caretaker government

I do not want a no deal Brexit so I hope it succeeds, but even a short period with Corbyn in charge is a risk.

And there you have it - which is the bigger risk :?:

Re: New security rules. Bank App or code via SMS text?

I'm a bit confused about what the problem is with security or otherwise of the SMS system/arrangement. For example, I'm online making a purchase from a site that I know or that at least has the https at the beginning or I'm making a payment via my online bank and either of these then require me to e...

Re: Burford Capital Limited (BUR)

Muddy Waters say they're going to release a damning report on a company at 8.00am tomorrow London time.
Consensus seems to be that it might be Burford on the receiving end.

"could well be down" - but, in my view, could more likely be up.

I'm certainly not selling yet.

Re: Car accident - Category N

I'm sure that many would prefer to stay with the same insurer but nowadays we seem to be penalised for doing so. Even being with the same agent doesn't seem to help - come renewal they search around all their associated insurers to get the best price. Even the existing insurer will offer a better pr...

Re: Winding up a Limited Company

In original correspondence from chosen Liquidator, he said " The fees and disbursements will be subject to VAT which should be recoverable from HMRC ". He submits a final VAT return once the liquidation is complete and I assume he will add his fee and disbursements as a cost thereby recove...

Re: Car accident - Category N

Yes, when discussing the point with the broker (RAC) I did say "yes but that means you can just increase our starting premium by 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 times and then allocate our 60% NCD to arrive at a final premium far in excess of this years. No, he said, that would be just silly. We shall see com...

Re: Winding up a Limited Company

An update for anyone who is interested. So far, so simple. I settled on a local liquidator although I haven't met him or been to his office so it didn't have to be local. He was happy to send me copies of his PI insurance certificate and confirmation of bond coverage. He emailed me a load of paperwo...

Re: Car accident - Category N

I thought I'd update this for anyone who might be remotely interested. In the end the insurance company was persuaded to make a cash settlement of £5,600 for us to undertake the repairs ourselves and agreed that they would not mark the car as Category N (or any other category). The insurer's approve...

Don't you have any teenagers you can ask? Actually anyone over the age of about 9 will do. I also succumbed about a year ago. I don't make use of most of its potential but it's good to be able to get my emails on holiday, use Google maps for satnav, take pretty good photos (I don't have a camera), c...

Re: Outfox the market

I've been with them for over 1 year now. No real problems. It took a litle while to get them to agree that my monthly charge was a bit more than it should have been but they ended up giving me a refund of a couple of hundred pounds and amending my monthly direct debit to a lower figure. Current deal...

Re: Car insurance for driving in France

Won't it be a surprise (if Brexit ever does happen) if suddenly all those European countries decide that, rather than risk putting off a lot of potential tourists with the income they bring, they will be quite happy for people from over here to drive over there with just their regular UK driving lic...

Re: How do I find out if my house survey was ok?

I certainly don't claim to be an expert but have sold and bought several houses over my lifetime. I think you can take it that, if the potential buyers are keen, they will have spoken to the surveyor the day after he carried out the survey for his/her initial findings/feelings about the house. That'...

Thanks Cookie, AJ Bell holdings all now en-route to Hargreaves Lansdown, minus the cash which AJ Bell insist has to go back to the pension fund bank account (they were happy to accept the cash when I transferred to them from Barclays). I had thought about converting the SSAS to SIPPs - but couldn't ...

Re: Broadband via 4G -- attaching a home phone?

Ah - actually I think you're right. Obviously I can make outgoing calls using my mobile phone and yes, I think there's an app that I can load onto my mobile phone which will mean being able to receive the calls people make to my "landline" number via sipgate. I just haven't got round to wo...

Re: Broadband via 4G -- attaching a home phone?

I finally got round to taking recommendations and signed up to sipgate for VOIP calls. Only wish I'd done it ages ago. Installing and setting up the grandstream adaptor was "fairly" straightforwad Signing up to sipgate was easy, transferring my BT telephone number to sipgate was easy. I'm ...

Protected No Claims Discount applies. Yes, I'm sure that'll be an interesting conversation come renewal in November.

But you're right, all our car insurance premiums have been pretty reasonable - if you're prepared to shop around.

Unfortunately probably no-one. Whether you agree with the British Ambassador's assessments or not, surely he was entitled and expected to make them on the certain understanding that they were confidential if not privileged. Personally I hope that they do find out who the leaker was and throw the boo...

Did you mean 'dashboard' rather than 'windscreen'? Some years ago I was advised that a windscreen mount within, or too close (20mm?) to, the area of screen swept by the wipers and also obscuring the view of the road is an MoT failure! Happily, the tester removed the mount before conducting the test...
