Re: RBS & Signature Litigation?

I think RBS was a share that many of us held in our HYP prior to and during the ABN Amro takeover and perhaps quite a few never-tinker HYP-ers still hold it now. This is why I am posting my question here since I do believe this is potentially a very practical consideration for many HYPers who once ...

Re: POLITE DISCUSSIONS Its still HERE!!

I have been making changes to the polite discussion room. 1) all posts over 12 months old are being removed. 2) it is invisble to guests 3) Its probably invisible to you; This is quickly rectified by going to your User control panel (click your name) and manage groups - you can request to be a memb...

Re: Alliance Trust Savings taken over by Interactive Investor

My question then is why do you have it? Do you simply use it as a mobile computer? You cannot get any incoming calls if you never give out the number except it would seem, those 'unidentifiable' calls. And anyway if you never answer it what is its purpose? Dod Persuaded by rellies.(Being a bit old....

Re: Alliance Trust Savings taken over by Interactive Investor

Why do some institutions not allow for people who don't or can't have a mobile phone ? Because they have made the decision that it is in your best interests that you have a mobile! Mind you, they may have missed that using a mobile phone places you (and me) at substantial risk of some form of fraud...

Re: Windscreen frost covers

Just want to say thanks to everyone who's offered advice on the windscreen-frost issue. ... so I think I might try the warm-water routine this winter, and see how I get on. I admit that I too thought that regularly putting such thermal-strain on a car windscreen could cause issues, but it seems tha...

Re: The Handmaid's Tale

Does nobody else watch this? As it had been strongly suggested, I had recorded most of the present series. I started to watch but found that it was not suitable for television in that lengthy scenes were not visible. It seems that the 'viewer' has to make their own interpretation of what may be hap...

Re: Car battery ID

That's the thing - if the battery is losing charge, then either it is duff, or there IS a parasitic drain. The drain should be easy to measure with the right meter (mine was £35 from Amazon) and needn't be too accurate because 'normal' drain is very low(20-40 mA) and the parasitic one much higher. ...

Re: Car battery ID

LOL, I haven't bought a used battery since my impoverished student days. The problem was always that you never quite knew where it had been - although in your case, clearly you did! And in the bad old days, middle-aged batteries were quite prone to fail because of fatigue in the internal connectors...

Re: Car battery ID

I had a K-reg Diesel Astra once which didn't start as easily as it should have done. When I replaced the battery with a calcium one of the heavier duty recommendation, the car started much more easily. I don't remember what the difference in CCA was, maybe 20 to 30% of the old one, but the starter ...

Re: Car battery ID

What you have not said is whether the car actually starts or not, just that it is slow starting. If it has always done that then probably it is normal. Sometimes letting the glowplugs warm up twice makes it easier (a neighbour bought a diesel van and every morning would jump in and immediately turn...

Re: Car battery ID

So many questions, so many possible issues. I can understand that the OP is peeved, but I'm not sure where he can take it from there? First up, five years is a fair innings for a factory-fitted battery, although you may get more if you're lucky. (On a diesel, probably not.) Second up, if there's a ...

I'll ask the questions first and add some explanation after. How to tell whether a battery is Calcium - Silver Calcium - Lead acid ( other than it be written on the casing. Record of damage

I'm looking for a a replacement 2nd car. Scanning the ads seems to bring up many with CAT S or N. I've read up on the definitions but I'm thinking that the system has a few faults. I would expect the owner would have kept photos of the damage pre-repair and the repair invoice but so far, only one ha...
