Re: BT upgrade to fibre options

Today I got a phone call from BT saying that my standard copper broadband contract is ending and I should upgrade to fibre. I said I was happy to continue with what I've got but was told that only two options were available - Superfast Fibre Essential 30Mb or superfast fibre 50Mb. // The upgrade to...

Re: Anyone good with music systems out there?

If it repeats for a roughly similar period every five minutes or so (i.e. with some degree of regularity) it is likely an external cause. Check for something with a thermostat (or other switching device). It can just be grubby contacts or often when an electromechanical t/stat is coming to the point...

Re: HSDL again

Please don't. It may encourage them to mess with things and when they (on-line brokers in general) do that it usually makes things worse, in some cases much worse. :(

Re: ITV (ITV)

Britbox: A bit like public libraries, it's a good idea it (i.e. the content) should be available. But unless it's for peanuts (or funded by the licence fee) I'm not sure I can see why many would want to subscribe long term. Investment wise (ITV) I can see it could end up as more of a burden than a l...

Re: Dazzled by Jargon

For clarity, as of present, I believe this is correct: HSDL 'monthly cheap dealing' is £3.95/trade, manually executed, quantity or value defined, (not for intended for fractional purchases AFAIAA, not sure about sales), 12:15-14.15p.m., a 2hr period, for UK shares and all day (typically 0800hrs-2100...

Just to mention DL Portfolios seem to be in 'let's duplicate your entries' mode again and leaving data entries on various pages out of synch, along with nonsense totals.

Quite so, do that and spend the rest of your time enjoying yourself. You can worry when you have lots more to invest later in life.

Re: Help with PC Specs

I don't want to spend money for the sake of it, but I have the budget available to buy a decent machine if needed. I do not live in the UK, but I can spend the equivalent of around £1k or bit more if necessary, just for the 'box' (I already have decent monitors). For the money that I am looking at,...

Re: "Source of wealth information" requested

Today, my wife and I both received letters from Barclays Smart Investor requesting proof of our "sources of wealth". Considering that I've been investing with Barclays Stockbrokers since 1995... Are we unique in being targeted like this? Rhys Simple answer, no. Only surprise might be that...

Only on the HSDL website nowadays. They removed the email inform arrangement, hence the topic here.

Quite amazing timing with last years 'negative reports' immediately preceding the start of the October rout. It's difficult to know which resulted in the greater concern. After some months in the doldrums the s/p is on the rise and again it's difficult to know how much of this is due to long positio...

Re: The Probate Tax is back

I stick by what I have said above. Let's go back to the pre-2010 position and lose the transferable main residence allowance worth up to £140,000 and reinstate the previous probate fees. Get real!Eb. But you are making the case for a tax, which this is not supposed to be. "Fees are an essentia...

Should have bought an discounted HP Business PC (e.g. HP 800 series) - probably no more expensive, better quality and better warranty. ;-)

Or you can Google it...
