Re: ISA account dividend paid twice

Thanks

I believe I the snail mail suggestion is optimal and that is what I will do, then they can write back tell me how they want to be re-payed.

ISA account dividend paid twice

I have an ISA with Halifax. I have the dividends paid to my bank account which is Intelligent Finance. This is all Lloyds (which I own shares in). They have paid me the same dividends twice, just under £500. I contacted my bank (by email) who said they can't do anything unless the sender contacts th...

Re: Imperial Brands Half Yearly Report

They are talking about selling traditional Tobacco interests and concentrating on the vaping market http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-5710733/Imperial-Brands-set-sell-chunks-company-looks-focus-vaping-craze.html I'd always rather viewed BATS and IMB in much the way i view Chesnara and ...

Re: A & GA Prefs

lol

Why is it that even those that own prefs fail to comprehend what they are.

Which is equity ie shares, they own the company (albeit in minority). With all the risks and rights therein implied.

Re: A & GA Prefs

The ords were the key. The holders of at least 25% Aviva ords (and probably a lot more) are also holders of prefs, if not AV, someone elses. The whole class was in turmoil and en masse they used their ord position in AV to defend their pref positions across the market.

Re: A & GA Prefs

As I understand the salient points The prefs were supposed to irredemiable and the dictionary definition of irredemiable is clear. The terms can be varied only by a class vote, ie the preferences must vote to change the conditions. Company law allows a return of capital, sharp minds argue that this ...

Re: Redemption -- some questions for thinking investors

I will stop posting as per GS after this.

The whole thing is real, it only got stopped because the ordinaries (whom Owen wants compensation from) stepped and stopped it.

Re: Redemption -- some questions for thinking investors

I think the GA ones could be redeemed if they wanted to at par and no one could stop them.

Would they? Not right now, but you need to price that in.

Re: Redemption -- some questions for thinking investors

No it didn't. You clearly do not understand what you are looking at. They are equity with fixed coupons and arcane prospectus', hence carry a risk. Which I might add you just saw realised. These are not investments for people who cannot afford to lose the money invested in them. In the vernacular &q...

Re: De la Rue profits warning

Mine was solidly French and regarded by the French state as economically important for the area. When it got into financial difficulties it received a state bailout, which was again illegal under EU rules. However no one batted an eyelid. You learned fast how the game was played. It's not that I dis...

Re: De la Rue profits warning

I don't know the detail of the passport case but I do have some experience of business in France. It is not a level playing field, I see no reason why we should play fair. As members of the EU we were an easy mark, we followed the rules they ignored them. I saw countless examples working for a Frenc...

Re: Misrepresentation?

I haven't bought (so no skin the pref game). However I do hold the ordinaries. I think legally the board has a point, certainly in court it could go either way. Practically though, I can't see them winning, even a full shareholder vote. Too many ord holders have feet in both camps either AV prefs or...

Re: Aviva's announcement

GS rightly or wrongly holders of prefs assumed that their share could be redeemed only on wind up, on tender or by a class vote. 1) Windup we all can work out what that risk looks like 2) Tender we can take view on what the best course of action might be 3) Class vote - Turkey would not vote for Xma...

Re: Aviva and General Accident preference shares

I read this elsewhere, but it did cause me to check. Interest rates in the UK were VERY high and had been even higher, in that historical context the preference owners would not have been able to prove that they were being discriminated against, I am less and less convinced that HoF case offers the ...

Re: Aviva and General Accident preference shares

You would. I seem to recall the prefs have more weight. I think I have to call HFX to get those options set, doesn't seem to be anyway to get them done online. My wife also hold ords (she has no clue that she does....) not looking forward to getting her to ring up

Re: Aviva and General Accident preference shares

I hold the ordinaries, I may buy the prefs. However I hold my shares in nominee form with the Halifax, which as things stand means I can't vote. However I have written to the Halifax to suggest that they make available a facility so Aviva shareholders can vote on this resolution, should it ever be m...

Re: Sky Announcement

There is a divi announced but broadly yes market thinks a counter offer is possible. The rationale being that Disney wants to own Sky and if it doesn't let Fox make a bigger offer it'll end up with a minority holding. It's all speculation though . Personally I'm a bit tired of Sky, it hasn't been a ...

Well that rocks my boat!

Wonder what the board will say - the usual "The bid materially under values the company" isn't going to fly since 10.75 was "considered a good price"
