I do not know whether it is reliable, but it says that the median return on £50,000 is 4.05% (tax free, of course). .

Hmmm.

I find that quite difficult to believe. that wold suggest 2K a year. I moved all our cash out of PBs cos even allowing for increased wotsits in more recent times it wasnt getting close to even half that. I appreciate thois is an "average2 but my personal experience would suggest that somebody somewhere was getting over 3K

I have held a full holding for just 3 months. So far I have won a total of £950, so almost a 2% return already.

No doubt my experience will revert to the mean. But then isn't part of the attraction that nobody gets the mean?

I think you mean 1%, but good going nonetheless.

No, I actually meant 2%, or nearly.

£950/£50,000 = 1.9%. That would be 7.6% in a year, if continued, which it surely will not be.

Has anyone else had very late notification of winnings this month? I had an email today (20th !!). I momentarily got excited that maybe it was an extra bond winning that they had missed from the earlier announcements, but unfortunately not. I already knew about this more than two weeks ago.

Yes, same here. I got excited too; fleetingly.

My wife received the same notification at 6.39pm today, asking for holder details. She had been notified at the beginning of the month of a win as per normal. No doubt it's a scam, Fools' beware

Looks genuine to me, just very late in the month. The email is sent from outgoing@nsandi.com

Me too, at 14.39 on the 20th.

Maybe they're trying to nudge existing holders to buy more in the run-up to the end of the month. Not possible for me as, I already hold the maximum. Is there a way for us to nudge them to increase that??

I came on here to ask about this - my [recently late] mum got this, I saw it in her emails but had already seen the prize go into her bank a few weeks agio, and I no longer have access to her bank account so can't check anything until after probate (I assume).

Good to see it's just a glitch and not something I've missed.

From yesterday's Express -

Premium Bonds customers confused as they get prize notifications three weeks after draw -

NS&I has responded after a string of Premium Bonds customers got in touch to say they had received a notification they had won a prize weeks after the October draw.

X user Dave Davies (@gripdave) asked the group: "Just had an email claiming to be from NS&I telling me I’ve won a prize which I thought was odd being middle of the month also asking to click on a link and enter my NS&I number. Can you confirm that it’s a scam?"

NS&I said in response: "We’re sorry due to a technical issue there was a delay in sending out the email notification. Your prize payout was not affected."

As I recently posted on the FIRE board which highlighted the cash balances I have (planned to be used to pay off each mortgage as it moves from the currency favourable fixed rate to the SVR), I've opted to move the max amount into Premium Bonds. Also sold some of my vested share options but that actually goes into Euros so not converting those back across into GBP.

Here's hoping for better than average luck :D

I've already way over in terms of interest received versus the higher rate Personal Savings Allowance which means any interest rate I get is broadly speaking halved after taking tax into account so seems something of a no brainer rather than chasing the savings rate elsewhere.

One thing I've noticed which annoys me - the NS&I website never remembers your NS&I number (you don't even get an option to say "remember me" - is there a way to do this?

If it's just for PB prize draw winnings, try the PB prize checker app: https://www.nsandi.com/get-to-know-us/technology/use-mobile-apps. I've recently downloaded it, having held off installing it, and it's quite good and reasonably fully featured (I hope I'm not tempting fate). It also allows more than one PB account to be viewed (which is a useful benefit for me) if you have the PB holder number (not the NS&I number).

Depending on your usual browser, you can probably set the prize-checker page as a 'Favourite', which is often then highlighted as some sort of 'Blue-Star' entry on the URL bar.

Once you've done that, you could append your PB number or numbers to the end of the 'Favourite' page name, so something like -

Premium Bonds prize checker | NS&I - 543442118

Then, when you next open your browser and navigate to that Prize-Checker URL, you can then click the blue star on the URL bar once it's opened, and it'll normally then show the small 'Favourite' configuration window, where you'd then be able to highlight your PB number at the end of the Favourite description, and copy and paste it into the prize-checker box.

Cheers,

Clever, although it only takes me 3-4 seconds to key in the 11 digit number anyway. I have so many userids and passwords that I have a list of them on a piece of paper on my desk, always at hand.

I do not know about NS&I but a couple of sites I use do not allow me to copy and paste a password. You have to manually enter it. A security feature, perhaps?
