I see a report in the Times this morning which suggests that Alliance Trust has received an unsolicited offer for ATS. I am not very happy about that from a personal point of view as I have a biggish ISA and a smaller SIPP with them. I like the security of Alliance Trust behind them (and their flat fee charging structure) Alliance wrote down the value of ATS at 31 December 2017 and I guess if they get an offer around their new carrying value they might well take it considering it has been a cause of a lot of grief for them over the last several years and they seem unable to make a profit from it.
So as a shareholder in Alliance I would be quite happy but I wonder who might be making an offer. Someone who wants to bulk up their business I assume.
