Not heard of My Community Finance before, but are FCSS protected and seems to be an arm of the Credit Unions.

From the FAQ on that page (spelling errors are theirs....):

To open a savings account, you will need to:

be aged 18 or over
have a UK address (excluding Isle of Man)
have a personal UK current bank account
match the criteria of the Common Bond of our Credit Unions which are:

If you are employed (incl. self-employed), you will be automatically approved and matched to one of our Credit Unions based on your industry.

If you are not employed (retired, student, unemployed) you can open an account if you are member of an applicable Trade Union or Assiociation (eg. CO-OP, National Trust, UNISON...).

The eligibility requirements don't seem that hard to meet. If none of the other criteria helps, being a Co-op member counts, and that's open to everyone and costs £1 (not a subscription, a one-off cost).

No, although some are, well, a bit curious. Aside from the list of trade union memberships, and the list of skills and professions* that they match you to one of our Credit Unions based on your industry on, there is also membership of, yes, the Coop, but also English Heritage and the National Trust, which are also open to everyone....

* I wonder what "escort", "exotic dancer" or "drug dealer" would come under ... Caring Personal Services? Leisure and Travel Services? Or just plain Other Skilled Trades?
