THE INDEPENDENT

It looks like 2017 could end up being the year of the 'Great Housing Crash'
A buy-to-let bust, lower incomes, Brexit and homeowners failing interest rate stress tests could mean that the bubble is about to burst

Quite.

I still have vivid memories of the late eighties-early nineties and the Lawson fuelled crash plunging 100,000s of people into negative equity.

Politicians make their blunders, move on, earn tidy money by speaking and pontificating in our press, and never have to suffer the consequences of their actions.

No, that's for the little people.

Well, this time its different (haha).

We no longer have taxpayer money propping it all up, interest rates will rise soon, and the tax burden on BTL has suddenly changed from a focus on stamp duty to income. Possibly a limit on immigration too soon. I'd say the factors that kept the property bubble inflated have gone.

Whether that means we'll see a crash or just stagnation is difficult to predict, either way I really doubt we'll see any more of the kind of rises predicted by estate agents.
