Renting Dumbo

#106921

Postby TahiPanasDua » December 31st, 2017, 9:45 am

We are contemplating a move to Hampshire for not less than 1 year before returning to Scotland. Despite being a self-proclaimed world class star equity investor I am totally ignorant about renting property in England. Can some kind person give me a very brief lowdown on the basics such as lease duration, notice periods, deposits, agents fees, etc.? Alternatively is there a convenient online source of such info?

If anyone can be bothered, only the most brief response is necessary.

Sincere thanks in advance,

TP2.

Find a suitable property to rent on Zoopla / Rightmove to get the address of an agent ( I'd suggest only going through an estate agent) in the area of interest.

Just explain your situation ( as above) and ask "for the lowdown" regarding your questions. The agent should be more than keen to advise ( if not, then you know where NOT to look when making the move). They can add you to their email nearer to when you are ready to move.

Generally a landlord would want a 1 year tenancy as a minimum as they have to pay the agent too. An agent would also check the landlord and do a property inspection ( condition of house and furnishings) and take photos. The landlord would also need to provide legal information ( gas safety certificate) to the agent and check smoke , carbon monoxide alarms.

More helpful advise coming...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dumbo-Edward-B ... 676&sr=8-1

But for £1.50 extra you can get the DVD and watch that elephant fly as many times as you like...

nmdhqbc,

Many thanks for what is a much needed wake up call.

It's high time for a New Year's resolution.

I have been pigging out on SpongeBob SquarePants, the Teletubbies and Lemon Fool.

It's time to grow up and Jumbo is an excellent upgrade.
