If you are using Cafe Nero or Costa over the holidays then you can get free coffees by installing their apps:

The Cafe Nero App give you a free coffee when you make your first purchase. Invite a friend and you get 2 drinks when they buy one.

The Costa App gives you 100 (£1) of points then 200 points when you make a first purchase. Invite a friend on the app then you get 200 points when they buy a coffee.

Yes LBYMers make their own flask of coffee rather than expensive high-street brands, but it is Christmas.

If you spend £10 at Waitrose that also entitles you to a 'free' Newspaper. I try and spend £10 not including coffee or paper, but I believe that the £10 spend actually includes the cost of those two items, making it even more of a bargain.Otherwise easy enough to tip over the £10 point buy buying stuff I need anyway. There's usually something - Dishwasher tablets / toilet roll / coffee etc. - on offer at any one time.

My coffee in LIDLs costs about £1.25 and is very very good - well up to the best you can get in Portugal for example. That is easily saved by buying their extremely good but markedly lower priced items such as washing up tablets, yogurt, pork, beef chicken, fish, fruit and veg, pate and really rather good bread as well as their 'to die for' croissants. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch and I doubt there is actually any such thing as a free coffee.

Only rarely do I darken the doors of Waitrose which happens to be opposite my local LIDLs and then it is only to buy shin of beef (a really tasty cut) which they often, but not always, stock.

Agree, a lot (though by no means all) of Lidls food is very good, and I'd take it in preference to Waitrose even if the prices were equal. Our Lidls is in a cluster with Morrisons and Tesco, and each of the three has its strengths and weaknesses. But the only one with in-store cafe is Morrisons, and that was try-once-never-again.

Sorry, UncleE, it is chilled coffee near the coleslaw in our very new Lidl. Got the price wrong! It is only 57 pence for 250 ml and there are four variants.
