Domestic Fuel Oil

Buying oil to fill my domestic oil tank is always a gamble but I have today filled it at 29.5p a litre, not quite, despite the price war going on, the lowest I have ever paid but nevertheless I regard anything below 30p a good price. The lowest I have ever paid was on 2 February 2016 when I paid 27.95p.

I would normally leave it now until late summer because I had enough oil to keep me going until then, heating only water but I like a decent price if I can get it.

We moved into our house in 1988.

Heating oil then was 12p a litre but increased very quickly.

Last week our oil supplier phoned us up and said we can provide heating oil at 22p plus VAT a litre. We had half a tank of oil but at that price we filled the tank.

We were paying over 50p a itre last year!

On May 1st I managed to order 2200 litres at 19.00p per litre plus VAT
I had been monitoring the price for a while, and that price was suddenly lower than it had been before.

I don't know whether Boilerjuice's system notes when you request a quote and then don't take it up and if you ask for another quote a day later gives a better price? I was also monitoring other online quotes as whilst Boilerjuice is usually good it isn't always cheapest.

I was obviously a bit premature with my order in April. Will need to check the oil level.

I gather there is a time lag between changes in the crude price and changes in the uk heating oil price of about 4-6 weeks
