most as far as I see fixed rate tarifs from energy suppliers have a penalty to leave, but NO PENALTY if you leave within 49 days of end of fix.
does anyone know if that is 49 days of the ACTUAL switch over to new supplier...
or
49 days from asking to switch
ie
they suggest it takes 3 weeks (ish) to switch
so.....??

Re: switching energy suppliers
I read something about this on Martin Lewis's site the other day.
You can arrange a swap as soon as you wish, in theory*, and as long as the date of the change of supplier is within the penalty free period you cannot be charged a penalty.

*The actual switch process is usually out of the users control, so it isn't normally possible to arrange a switch too far ahead of the date you wish to change as it may complete before entering the penlty free period.
