For those who like a Waitrose tea or coffee....

A further tightening of the "free" offer, from an email received today.
The 100% free-for-all offer as it was at launch was never going to be sustainable, but it's still good if you are shopping there anyway and fancy a cuppa.

...Our myWaitrose free tea and coffee offer is one of the ways we thank our customers for shopping with us - and we want all our customers to be able to enjoy a free hot drink when they shop with us in our branches.

From 3 April, we'll simply be asking myWaitrose members to make a purchase* before collecting their cup at the checkout.

*Excluded Items: single use carrier bags, tobacco, stamps, mobile top ups, e-Top up vouchers, lottery tickets, gift vouchers, cashback, infant milk formulae, car park charges, fuel and delivery charges.

Infant milk formulae??

How strange to single that?

Are there significant numbers of Waitrose shoppers running out of baby milk and just shopping for that?

The footer to the email does go on to say "Please note, we are required by law to exclude infant milk formulae from any marketing promotions" so I assume the free drinks count as a marketing promotion.

But the visual of hordes of Waitrose shoppers queuing up at the cofeee machine juggling those big tins of cow and gate is quite amusing

No it's because it's illegal to incentivize the purchase of infant milk formula. To encourage breast feeding I suppose.

Scott.
