BAE gone ex-div today, in case anyone wondered why down nearly 5% today, like I did.

I was aware, but thanks anyway. I actually topped up my BA. holdings last month, in order to ensure I qualified for the dividend with as much of the available cash I had to hand that was for allocated for investing. BAE account for 4.6% in capital value terms, of my 25 share HYP.

With the example of Chesnara in that thread doing the opposite.
In general, and on average, those "wins" and "losses" balance out ensuring there is no generic "better" way to invest ex, or cum, the dividend.

Which was the point I was making.

Re: BAE ex div
Unsuccessfully in my case. What I took from your contribution was simply that the BAE price had dropped more than the ex-div date justifies; whereas dealtn's contribution suggested really quite clearly that sometimes the price drops more and sometimes less. Re: BAE ex div
Ah, quite. I’ve linked the right thread, but not the post (mine) viewtopic.php?f=15&t=28664&start=20#p402669. Apologies to all (esp. dealtn). BTW, I also hold BAE, but didn’t top-up.
