Media Sector pick - worth the risk?
I have doubts about the Media sector. Screening suggests ITV or WPP at the moment.
Is this another sector that should join support services on the 'no go' list?

I don't have any 'no go' sectors just individual company metrics and whole portfolio diversification criteria. I hold both WPP and ITV and will be topping up one or both soon.

Re: Media Sector pick - worth the risk?
The media sector covers a disparate range of companies. I hold Pearson and did hold Trinity Mirror in the past. I also held Sky some time ago and Granada/ITV, but lack of yield caused them to be dumped. I still have Compass as a result of holding Forte, which was taken over by Granada, which merged with Compass, which begat.....
So in my view it is horses for courses, and you have a mixture of flat, jumps, point to point and greyhounds in that sector, possibly including ferrets up a drain pipe. If you find a winner stick with it, otherwise put it in a selling plate.

I do understand your doubts tbh. Having suffered with Pearson in the past I was shy of the sector too. However, times change and over recent months I brought ITV into my HYP fold. No regrets on my part and I intend topping up my holdings soon.

April 4th.
"The Board of WPP has appointed independent counsel to conduct an investigation in response to an allegation of personal misconduct against Sir Martin Sorrell, Chief Executive Officer of WPP. The investigation is ongoing. The allegations do not involve amounts which are material to WPP."

WPP gets a mention in this TMF item;
Can you afford to miss FTSE 100 dividend stock WPP plc after 40% fall?

Re: Media Sector pick - worth the risk?
ITV is a very different business to the one that tanked in 2008.
about 1/3 of revenue is now from selling content externally, and debt is down significantly. the low debt and shrinking pension deficit combined with the huge audiences they generate make it an obvious takeover target.
the long term trends are clearly pointing towards netflix and youtube, but there have been issues with youtube advertising (advertisers being picky as to what content their ads are displayed on). i wonder what the effect adblocking will have on the reach you can get on youtube?
i'm tempted to think that the stock is oversold.

You got your wish. Let us hope they continue as successfully without him as they were with (and I'm not referring to [expletive deleted]).
