This from the above Iink in the OP, but you have to register to read the full item;

Imperial Brandsshares were ignited today by the tobacco giant snapping up a stake in a medical marijuana research firm, an investment described by analysts as the “most significant” yet by a tobacco company in the cannabis industry.

IMB are my largest holding in my HYP from the sector, and I fully support their efforts to diversify their offerings. As for marijuana itself, I guess it's the way of the World nowadays, so this event isn't a big surprise perhaps. I'm glad to see the bosses at IMB have the balls to do this.

I think it was only a matter of time before one of the Big Tobacco's did. Perhaps IMB just have a more agile Risk Committee than BATS ...

Maybe so Moorfield, but I commend them nonetheless. Let’s see what the competition does?

I'm all for equal rights. ;) I was talking metaphorically of course. But you are correct, Alison Cooper is the CEO.

Alison Jane Cooper (born 31 March 1966) is a British businesswoman. She is currently the chief executive officer (CEO) of Imperial Brands, the world’s fourth-largest tobacco company as measured by market share

Presumably Oxford Cannabinoid Technologies made a statement to the market at the same time as Imperial Brands did?

If ever there was a case for some sort of joint announcement.....

They can't have done, because (unless Imperial Brands used an RIS other than RNS) Imperial Brands haven't made a statement to the market about the deal (I'd guess it's actually too small a deal to require one). Furthermore, even if Imperial Brands had/have done so so, Oxford Cannabinoid Technologies would be under no obligation to make one: they're a private company! (See https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/10664635.)

Itsallaguess wrote:If ever there was a case for some sort of joint announcement.....

;-)

And yes, I do realise that your first statement is probably only meant as part of the joke - but it is an instructive example of what sort of news not to expect to pick up from RNSes!

Thanks Gengulphus, and you're quite right, it was realistically never going to happen. Thanks for posting the detail as to why this is the case though, as I wouldn't want anyone getting confused by my little toke, I mean joke...

:D

Cheers,

Probably time to put it out to grass (and, as long as IMB don't make a hash of it, there seems little need to reefer to the subject again...).
