RIO Trimmed

#213815

Postby tjh290633 » April 9th, 2019, 10:03 am

Yesterday RIO went through my self-imposed value limit of 50% above the median holding value, so I trimmed it back by 25%. The proceeds went into LLOY and KGF who were top ranking shares in my top-up table, after disqualifications. Because of RIO's special dividend, it's yield is anomalously high. Without that it would be 4.93%.

My top-up table now looks like this:

Top-up Income Cost
Rank EPIC Rank EPIC % Income Rank Epic % Cost
1 VOD 1 TW. 5.66% 1 MARS 5.02%
2 WMH 2 RIO 5.49% 2 LLOY 4.55%
3 SSE 3 SSE 4.51% 3 WMH 4.35%
4 BT.A 4 MARS 4.47% 4 GSK 4.29%
5 IMB 5 VOD 4.44% 5 AV. 4.25%
6 KGF 6 AV. 4.17% 6 SSE 4.24%
7 BLND 7 IMB 4.06% 7 MKS 4.14%
8 BA. 8 RDSB 3.95% 8 PSON 3.91%
9 S32 9 BATS 3.84% 9 RDSB 3.91%
10 SMDS 10 ADM 3.61% 10 BT.A 3.66%
11 LLOY 11 BT.A 3.59% 11 BATS 3.48%
12 TW. 12 BP. 3.58% 12 BHP 3.46%

Disqualified shares are now VOD, SSE and TW. on account of share of income, and LLOY, WMH and SSE on account of share of cost. If topping up by 20% would send either above 5%, then I disqualify the share.

My portfolio now looks like this:

Value
Rank EPIC Weight % Median
1 GSK 3.63% 126.4%
2 RDSB 3.59% 125.1%
3 CPG 3.58% 124.8%
4 DGE 3.52% 122.5%
5 BP. 3.46% 120.4%
6 SGRO 3.43% 119.4%
7 ADM 3.31% 115.4%
8 RIO 3.24% 112.9%
9 UU. 3.23% 112.4%
10 TW. 3.21% 111.7%
11 LGEN 3.15% 109.5%
12 MARS 3.12% 108.8%
13 AV. 3.11% 108.2%
14 BATS 3.06% 106.6%
15 AZN 2.99% 104.1%
16 BHP 2.90% 100.9%
17 ULVR 2.90% 100.8%
18 IMB 2.87% 100.0%
19 SSE 2.83% 98.5%
20 BT.A 2.76% 95.9%
21 NG. 2.72% 94.8%
22 TATE 2.70% 93.9%
23 MKS 2.69% 93.7%
24 PSON 2.68% 93.4%
25 LLOY 2.68% 93.4%
26 BLND 2.46% 85.7%
27 WMH 2.46% 85.6%
28 VOD 2.44% 84.8%
29 S32 2.43% 84.6%
30 RB. 2.32% 80.9%
31 BA. 2.25% 78.5%
32 IMI 2.21% 76.9%
33 SMDS 2.18% 75.9%
34 KGF 2.14% 74.5%
35 TSCO 1.71% 59.6%

Tesco report tomorrow. BT.A are currently next in line for promotion, but it could all change. After Easter will be the time.

Is it not a bit odd that the share you've just cut is already 8th on the top up list or am I missing something

No it's eight by value in the portfolio post trimming, still above median.

You are looking at the wrong list. The top-up list is the first one, the left hand columns.

The second is the current portfolio ranked by value.

Indeed I am. I held them initially for the dividends paid. I planned to sell when they stopped paying dividends, but the price was on a roll, so I delayed. When problems reared their heads, it was obviously time to go. I have no regrets.
