Step away for a day to concentrate on the Masters and oh what fun I've missed :D

I don't hold either SLA or Schroders and have enough exposure to financials. I see the unloved HSBC dumped a nice big dividend into my account though. Not sexy, not liked, not growing, but a 6 percent yield.

SRDC are conservatively managed, have a track record of raising dividend over 50 years. If I understand their accounts correctly, have net cash.

Sounds like a company with a margin of valuation to safely continue into the future.

Of course you are both wrong: fundduffer is seeking yield.

May I mischievously point out that the highest yield in the FTSE 350 currently is Plus500- dividenddata show over 20% yield. MCap bigger than junk like KIER or GFRD or NRR too....

For a HYP investor to overlook such a stonking rich seam of future dividends seems perverse.

Plus500 at 20% yield ..or is it even higher today?

I'll PM you some words you can use Dod, and don't forget you can use the ignore list to help manage your blood pressure.

On funduffer's list I would vote for WPP, and thanks for suggesting SDRC

I mentioned yesterday I'm taking a break from this Board. I know what works well for me now and I'll keep that up on Portfolio Management & Review.

You remind me of the time in the early 1970s when Rolls-Royce were yielding something like that, on an historical basis, only for them to go bust and Rolls-Royce 1974 Ltd to rise from the ashes. I think they may have been caught by the white hot innovation ideas.

Just for anyone confused SDRC yield 5% by my reckoning so no need to accept lower yielding shares on this board. There are two classes of Schroders shares, SDR 3005p and SDRC 2250p the latter being the preferred HYP pick as I expect we can all live without the more expensive hence lower yielding voting shares.

I know we can't predict the future of dividends but I think PLUS could be due a rebalance. their business is under regulatory threat. In my trading account, definitely not HYP, I have held PLUS since Feb 14 adding more that year averaging around a fiver. Late 2017 at around £10 I sold about half to return my all my initial investment plus a few years of 10% yield, Last year at £20 I trimmed again. If they can keep the payments up, from first glance they look HYPable based on income history if you include the special dividends but as I said the regulatory risk would need investigating and I have not looked at the company since 2017 and that was cursory to decide to sell out or trim and it looks like I got that wrong as they've crashed recently to around my buy price.

For anyone who is thinking of diving in ……

https://www.investegate.co.uk/plus500-l ... 00059774V/
Overview of trading

Group revenue for the three months ended 31 March 2019 was $53.9 million (Q4 2018: $154.8 million). This was behind the recent historic run rate due to extremely subdued financial markets across most asset types. Revenue for the first quarter is stated after $28.1m of positive customer net trading performance (negative market P&L).

Mind you, who knows what the next few month will bring. Still, a bit volatile for my taste

For you or anyone else with a similar problem, about ITH or any other poster, let me suggest a very simple solution: check whether describing the other poster and/or your feelings about them lies within the board's topic and the site rules. If the answer is "no" or "doubtful" to either, recognise that it's not a good idea to post about them, which makes finding a suitable description a problem that it's a waste of time to even try solving!

I won’t be considering Plus500 for my HYP.

There’s high yield, very high yield, danger zone and now WTF zone! Plus55 seems to be on the latter!

A while back Hypers also said Lloyds had a great culture...

FWIW I just this week topped up SLA and WPP and bought a new holding SMDS. The latter doesnt have such a high yield, but I wanted to add a new sector to my HYP.

Before topping up SLA also considered adding SDRC instead, which has been on my watch list for a while. The better dividend cover would be the main reason to choose it over SLA in my view But the higher yield won out for me.

I doubt that I, at least ever claimed that Lloyds had a great culture but, as I said earlier in this thread, their problems were self inflicted in that they did not have to buy HBOS which was the source of their disaster. However they thought they were getting a great opportunity to buy market share, which they were, but at a cost far in excess of anything they expected, I would imagine.

I see that you have just bought SLA. Well that is your privilege, but chasing a high yield often does not work out well. Good luck.

It’s surely a no-brainer for a HY strategy, amirite?

No, it's a screaming warning to avoid it.

That's the historic yield, and if you are so convinced, sell the farm to buy it and then tell us how you got on.

Wait till they next report, then think again. That's if they still exist.

Google for the Company name and the news stories tell you that regulatory changes have collapsed the size and perhaps profitability of its business. There's both that and reporting of previously undisclosed losses. The price chart shows that the quoted dividend yield is because the price has collapsed. It's about a quarter of what it was a year ago.

I am bemused that some posters seem to take what are obviously ironic/amusing/not to be taken seriously posts as gospel. I find them quite amusing myself. I guess it is this media which makes it difficult to 'read' the message.

As to Plus500, with that sort of yield, what could possibly go wrong?

Strange - one of my postings has also disappeared...must have been whilst I was "buying that bridge!" (I commented that I couldn't buy any PLUS500 shares as I had no money left after buying a bridge...no questions asked ;) ).
