ITV Half Yearly Report.

#238809

Postby idpickering » July 24th, 2019, 7:09 am

H1 modestly better than expected

• Total external revenue down 7% at £1,476 million (2018: £1,593 million)

• ITV total advertising revenue down 5%, better than previously guided

• Strong growth in online revenue, up 18%, against tough comparatives

• Total ITV Studios revenue down 6% at £758 million (2018: £803 million) as expected, with deliveries weighted to the second half. ITV Studios external revenue was down 11% at £487 million (2018: £549 million)

• Broadcast & Online adjusted EBITA was down 18% at £211 million (2018: £257 million)

• ITV Studios adjusted EBITA down 2% at £116 million (2018: £118 million)

• Adjusted EBITA down 13% at £327 million (2018: £375 million)

• Adjusted EPS down 13% at 6.2p (2018: 7.1p)

• Statutory EBITA down 16% at £310 million (2018: £367 million)

• Statutory EPS down 9% at 4.8p (2018: 5.3p)

And later; Dividend per share

ITV continues to deliver a good operational performance in the areas of the business we can control, in an uncertain economic and political environment. Reflecting the Board's confidence in the business and its strategy, as well as the continued strong cash generation, it has declared an interim dividend of 2.6p which is flat year-on-year. This is in line with the Board's commitment to pay a full year dividend of at least 8.0p. The Board expects that over the medium term the dividend will grow broadly in line with earnings.

Evidently I haven't got a clue about investing, having sold out of ITV not long ago. :D The SP is up over 7% as I type, but I still favour WPP in the overall sector. The bottom line though is that HYP is about income, and sp movements, though of interest maybe, are immaterial here.

Reading the above, there is one word which is used too frequently.....'down'. All I can put it down to is the sentence above ..'modestly better than expected '.

Similarly, I didn't expect the drop at Marstons when glancing at the update this morning..the update was flat (no reflection on their beer).

Thank you. I agree with both your sentences.

Has anyone spotted the XD and payment dates for ITV's interim dividend?

I checked through the RNS, and also on the ITV website, under both /Financial Calendar and /Shareholder Information/Dividends, but there's nothing there.....

TIA.

5. The interim dividend will be paid on 2 December 2019. The ex-dividend date is 24 October 2019. The record date is 25 October 2019.

Ian, thanks for posting the details on ITV. I too was lured in to WPP. For me it was their long and fat increasing dividends but I missed the company statement about future dividend being pegged to 50% of EPS so unfortunately that trend will not be continuing. ITV similarly have had a good run since restarting in 2011 but static recently.

You’re welcome kempiejon. I don’t mind admitting being tempted to buy back into ITV, but something holds me back. All this jumping hither and dither ain’t the way to run an HYP anyway.

You’re welcome. Tomorrow we have Unilever and Diageo reporting. Not that they’re HYP shares :D . I hold both. Back to ITV though, I have no intention of a repurchase.

They have been, Ian. I dumped ITV when they stopped paying their miserable dividend. I owned them because I had Forte, bought by Granada, merged with Compass and then split off the TV part, which merged with Carlton.

I still have Compass and keep wondering if I should sell them, but that dividend keeps on rising.

10% annual long term dividend growth they can stay in my portfolio. As Ian mentioned there's plenty of income payers in a holding pattern.

I was actually thanking IanTHughes for his dividend-related information, but I am happy to include you for all your good work, idpickering.

Thank you for wising me up on that. Please pardon my arrogance, and cheers for your kind words.

Ian.
